For being proud of completing a marathon? I dont give a damn what kind of shape you're in. If you can finish a marathon you deserve to be proud of it. It's an accomplishment.

Why exactly does he need to be knocked down a peg or five then? I didnt see him say he was better than anyone. Nothing elitist about it. He said he was proud of running it and raising money for charity. How exactly is that elitist?

Should I feel bad for raising $5k for a non-profit?

Absolutely not, you didn't make the rules and charity is a worthy cause, my wife and I run/ride multiple charity events a year.

However, saying you ran the Boston without the caveat of how you got your bib is akin to me telling people I kicked a field goal during the Superbowl when it was during halftime as a promotion.

Mingo has a real problem with me. Don’t know where it started or why he harps on it. Honestly, he’s so hated on this site that the fact that he hates me might actually be a good thing.

Yeah, but then he couldn't act like he's better than you

Fair enough. To be clear, I did run the Boston marathon. But I’ve never, ever tried to hide the fact that I wasn’t a qualified runner. Those guys are animals and I respect the hell out of them. I was grateful to run the same race and raise some money for a good cause at the same time

I just dont see the issue is all. You weren't bragging or saying you were better than anyone else.

I had a horrible ankle injury years back that screwed up my knees and my back. I'll never be able to qualify for that and its completely out of my control and I am at peace with that. If I were to run it under a charity organization I'd be just as proud of it as I would if I had qualified for it.

Nobody should feel any less accomplished or less worthy of running than anyone else.

The route for the New York Marathon runs about 50 yards from my apartment. Seeing everyone run and people cheering them on makes me consider it for about half a second. Then I remember I hate running

It feels great crossing the finish line when running. Then you regret it for a little bit when your legs spend a day screaming at you.

I hate running too, I only run for my wife and she only rides for me. There is nothing I have ever done that in less than 3:30 did nearly as much damage to my body. I can ride 12+ hours on the bike and while I am just as (or more tired) for the next week my feet don't look like they have been in a blender and my joints don't feel like that have been beaten with a hammer.

Which is why I have immeasurable amounts of respect for people that do it constantly.

We have friends that run 6+ a year and I always kid them about how much of a glutton for punishment they are. I honestly don't know how their body can take the constant training. There is nothing quite like a runners high but the price is pretty hefty.

Everyone I know that ran more than one a year has since stopped because it was destroying their bodies. Particularly their knees

Someone is mad because he's too fat to run a marathon.

No chance I could run a marathon, but I don't train to either
