Agree 100% on the mental barrier. I shocked myself every Saturday long run. Granted I trained for 5 months for my first marathon, but no cramping or injuries. 3:52 for 26.2!!!!!!!

That's nothing short of amazing to me. I trained for 6 months, every day, for my first marathon. It was only a half. If not for unfortunately needing to take a shite during it, I wouldve finished in about 2:30. My ankle doesn't hold up very well anymore and I just can't run at that speed or pace for long distances.

My “fatass” can and has run a marathon. You’ve admitted you can’t.

Congrats, you got the East Bound and Down joke. I thought about a comeback, but after reading your post you’re already a joke.

I've run 11 half marathons -- was training for a full under good coaching and when I got to my 16 mile long run, started having shin splints and couldn't overcome them. One day when I have time to dedicated to training for a full again, maybe I'll attempt it again.

Before I ran a full marathon, I had only run a 12k and a few 5ks.

Just followed a schedule that i found online for training.

Did not set ANY time expectations and finished. Was very proud of myself.

Half marathon was my favorite. Felt great throughout and was proud of my time(2:06?).

My second full, I set a time goal and got hurt at mile 17 so did lots of walking but finished in a really slow time.

And now my knees are fricked. lol

8 marathons and a couple sprint triathlons

and did 1 full Ironman (nothing like hitting that corner to the finishing stretch and having them say that "you are an Ironman")

(one of the Marathons was INDOORS - about 100 laps on a track- that was one of my favorites)

Loved them all. The races with the best crowds seemed to be the most fun. They are a good excuse to train and travel and see old friends.

I would love to keep doing them, but not sure the body can keep taking the running aspect.

If I can do them, anyone can do them. An Ironman is not much tougher than a marathon IMO....its all mental.

Its a long day, but its catered:)

I’ve run marathons and I’ve run Ultra-marathons. If you train fairly decent for am marathon and stay properly hydrated you should feel ok after.

I’ve got two 100 milers and a 50k planned for this year, and 1 marathon as of now. The first 100 miler is in two weeks, and I’m behind on my training, so I’m hoping I can just suffer through it. The second is in August, and should be ready, but it’s in then mountains, so that’s gonna make it a little tougher.

The 50k is the Barkley Fall Classic, and I’m expecting that one to be pretty brutal.

Tell me about it. Finally had mri as I kept trying to rest/restart and when walking got painful it was time. Near stress fracture on one side. Tons of fun let me tell you.
