‘96 Lexus LS400 back in the day easily and quickly got to 140mph and I let off thinking I’d get caught on the stretch of new interstate. I had just picked it up from getting new tires and was curious if the tires were well balanced. Yes, they were…

Back in 1965, my brother hit 110 in my our dad’s ‘55 Chevy Belaire on Airline Highway near Gonzales, La. It wiggled a bit at that speed.

Same year a friend hit 135 in his Mustang Fastback on that same stretch of Airline Highway after a nearby bar closed.

I got my '78 Toyota pickup up to 85mph once, going down a mountain, tailgate down, windows rolled up, radio off...

How many have covered 100 miles or more in an hour in a car?

Except that sudden crosswind at 155 that shifted me one lane over.

I was on an interstate in a flat area on a slight decline so it was obvious there were no cars and or waiting cops for a few miles. I had to use gps because the digital speedometer tops out at 160. I straddled the white line to give plenty room on either side. At 170 the slight decline had transitioned to a slight incline and a hump in the fast approaching distance that I couldn't see over. I imagined a sea of brake lights waiting on the other side and let off. It was clear and had I stayed on it, had another couple open miles to see how close to 200 it would go.

120 + on an old Suzuki 3 cylinder water cooled motorcycle late one night after work..or so I've heard.
Now?
Don't even want to ride around the back yard on a 125cc Honda.

Hit 104 in a 1984 Honda Prelude back in 1989. thought it was going to take off.

Pretty dumb in hindsight as if the tire blew I wouldn’t be here today.

156 mph is my max in my current car.

Any speeds near of above 100 mph should be done in a vehicle designed to do so. Going 100+ mph in my F150 is just plain stupid.

I have not driven that fast since the 90's, so my 92 MX6 was the last car I drove over 100mph. I bought it the week before Christmas. On the way back to Dallas from having visited my parents in Ruston for Christmas, I got in with three other cars with radar detectors that were driving 90-95 from Tyler to Dallas. They kept driving that fast when we got off of I-20 at Tyler. I slowed down to 65 when the speed limit changed to 60 on Hwy 80.

I never drove that fast in the Honda or the three Toyotas I've had since then. I'm 67 now, and doubt I'll ever drive that fast again. If I'm in a 70 mph zone I keep my speed under 80 mph. I may have driven as fast as 90 mph passing some pr*ck who drives 70 mph in the left lane, but haven't needed to do 100 mph for any reason.

I'm sure there are riders who have discipline with the throttle, or take their high speed indulgences out on a proper track. But most guys who ride sport bikes aren't the smartest in the litter.

I would also argue that it was safer to go 90 to 100 on the freeway than it was to drive the speed limit. I had more encounters with vehicles when I was going the speed limit because it's a lot easier for a driver to see a moving obstacle than it is to see someone riding the same speed they are driving.

1970 every teen boy in Lake Charles did that on 5th Ave Extension when it was bordered only by fields. I pulled off and fricked a date with the car parked behind a clump of bushes only to discover that a rear wheel was in the middle of large ant pile after the deed was done

My high school buddy and I used to take his Starsky&Hutch Ford Torino out on the local airport runway and do a straight line speed test. The last time we did it a guy was coming in for a landing just as we finished. I heard through the grapevine he reported us to the authorities but they never figured out who we were.

It you could sneak onto it. Three friends took their motorcycles onto a runway in mid 70's One was ahead of the other two when just about his front wheel hit a cable stretched across the runway, unseen at dusk. He was about to go back to work on a tanker. He slid 175 feet, found the watch band of his Rolex and lost a few diamonds out of nugget gold ring. He missed two months of work healing from the skin being scrapped off part his body He broke the cable and the other two were unscathed to get help for him
