re: Metal building contractors in South LA

What about using plastic instead of all metal?
Possible I suppose, but not ideal IMO. The sun is hell on plastic which poses an endurance problem and there are structural issues I would assume. Haven't priced out plastic R-Panel before so no clue on the potential savings. Metal R-Panel is about $1.00 a sq ft give or take. And on a 20X40 the total sheet metal package would be between $3000 and $4000. I wouldn't personally cheap out on it to save maybe $1000.

Are they engineering the building for you also? How tall are the side walls? That just seems insanely high for a material only quote unless there's concrete involved.
I designed my own building and the footprint is 40X84 with 16' walls and 5:12 pitch roof. That's 40X60 enclosed and a 24' covered parking area. I also have an additional 20X35 guest house attached. The structural steel was right at $10k and the siding/roofing and trim came out to about $12k. $67k sounds like a LOT of extra. The rollup door (20X14) was $7,500, opener was $800 and the man doors were like $300 a piece. I overbuilt my shop at that also. I used 6" purlin at 4' intervals on the walls and ceiling and designed my trusses also. The concrete was around $40k. So if $67 includes concrete then I think you're in the ballpark.

Usually there is a cheat code to turn it off. There is on my ram.

Budget 40k or so. Will that not get it done?
Problem is the labor right now.
Concrete will run you about $8,500 to $9,000.
Structural steel will be about $3500 and rough ballpark on the siding and roofing will be $3500. $40k sounds reasonable, but labor has gone straight up and double material price isn't necessarily the metric any longer.
$40k might get you the shell with a man door and a small roll up without any electrical finish-out. Unless you're electrical savvy, be prepared to provide your own lube for their quote.

Humans may be worse off without industrialization, but even that is debatable when you find out people that were never introduced to it seem to live happier lives despite the lack of modern comforts.
Yeah because when Henry Ford created the 8 hour work week he was sitting in his office smoking a pipe in. . . Europe.

Given it's concrete, it's probably better cheaper to lose the 25% than to demo and re-pour.
How bad is it OP? Did he add a footer on the wall? Was it tall enough to warrant it.

I have a neighbor in his 70s worth probably $50m give or take. He got the old missed jury duty scam call and was headed to buy gift cards. Hes surprisingly sharp still so it blew my mind. He bought a simulator recently so ill help him with technology when he needs.
Im not even 1% of his net worth yet so dont think this is a subtle brag post.

How bad is it leaking? Can you recharge it and be good for 3 years?
This is probably a tough question to answer. I assume they can pressure test it and maintain it's holding for the time, but if it's a pinhole leak, it could leak out over a quicker time span. So he could put $700 or however much it is into the system to leak out and AHS will be back out to give him a $10/lb discount on the next fill up.
I had the exact scenario come up in my first home. AHS doesn't want to pay for shite. The company actively wants to slap a band aid over the repair rather than repair it the correct way. Ended up telling the real estate agent on the next two houses I've bought to just keep their money.
The contractors that take work from them are referred work on a cost basis. So the lower the contractor on average bills AHS for, the more work they get. So they are incentivized to charge you for every little bit they can. The service call was like $75 at the time, the contractor gets the $75. And the only things they'll confess to covering is anything less than $75.
Garage door opener went out. Motherboard burnt up and surprise surprise, the motherboard isn't covered by warranty. Asked the rep there to point out what the warranty coveres, and it was basically everything that was under $75 on the door and opener.
The poster above that said they never miss an opportunity to talk badly about AHS, I share the same sentiment.

This is a crap way to state this. I'm sure there's a very good reason they didn't mention how much the costs they are trying to recover are, and I'm sure SLEMCO members will pay the extra for the entire 12 months.

Man every time I post a job we have 300 applicants in a week for jobs that involve software engineering. The people who get hired on entry level are those who have done some internships, or some level of building their own portfolio of projects that they can demonstrate and talk about. He should have a Git repo with projects or have done some pro bono work for a small business or worked a college technical job. If you just show up with a degree and you haven’t done shite but work a college job at a restaurant or stay at home and play video games at moms, we pass.
This exactly. I dont know if ut has a llm degree yet but we have a couple of interns right now who are majoring in llm. One of them in particular shows a lot of promise.
We are in a bit of an odd time where AI is new and the future is unsure but also in a point where development is faster and easier replaced by AI. The future is token efficiency and if he can figure out how to maximize output without blowing a waud on tokens he will be golden.
Dual majoring may jot help as much as it has in the past so the dual major might be best spent on a career that is less prone to AI carnage.

Have a buddy that served in Iraq and some of the stories he tells are pretty nuts. Apparently he was one of the first marines to cruise into Iraq.

re: How much of a scam is the dentist?
Posted by WhiskeyThrottle on 6/18/26 at 12:56 pm to 03 West CoChamps
I had a good dentist who retired. Would tell you that you had some time on a cavity if you weren't ready and never used the word deep cleaning. Granted, I've gone twice a year for a long time. He retired and went to one that was "family owned" except they weren't. Stay away from corporately owned dentists. They will drill and take more of your natural teeth than is needed.

Unless you're just going over the top on finish-out or pouring a ton of additional concrete, I would think $100k should damn near get the entire job done.

If you give them an inch they will take a mile.
Really depends on the economic class that will be renting. The lower the rent the lower rent problems you have. Expect pets to be a problem when they leave. And charge enough of a deposit that it hurts if they leave the place unsanitary.

re: The Carmelo Anthony Verdict, do you feel joy or do you feel terror?

It's very discouraging to watch the trash wishing death on the rest of the family. It just confirms how many truly lost and evil people there are in this world and no amount of rationalizing or placating will ever fill the victimized mentality they have in their lives.
If my child killed another human being in the same circumstances, there's no way I would feel anything but sadness for the victim's family. There is no way I would wish death or anything malice towards them.
Just a lack of accountability from beginning to end from the Anthony family.

I believe the business matches the giving done by customers up to $X. Not that they're going to keep everything over that threshold. If customers donate $100k, the store will match the $100k but the store has to limit how much match they're going to donate at some point.
