She’s not really a typical liberal. On our first date we discussed the Scott Walker recall efforts and how she had voted for Walker. She absolutely abhors Trump and my love for Trump is very well documented, so basically we haven’t been talking politics in many respects for over 2 years now.

She’s a true fiscal conservative - she is just kind of pie in the sky about education being the answer and bending over backwards during these times to help end this tension. I think it’s fantasy but she has logical examples from her life to justify her feelings, so I respect that.

I'm probably in a pretty similar situation to this actually. It can work. She hates Trump. I remind her most times that I'm still voting for him for the judge appointments alone.

She's left, and she'll joking use something like "white male privilege," and I'll either respond that "It doesn't exist," or that "I love having it," depending on the day and the mood.

She's fiscally conservative, for the most part, and is level headed, but gets caught up with the bad parts of "doing the right thing,." which usually means championing the down trodden - women, minorities, etc. even when it gets lopsided. She dislikes the USWNT team and that whole thing, and hates FB and FB political posts, regardless of party.

You have to get to a place where you can joke about it. Where the eye rolls are somewhat expected, and even intended, and understand that you are both coming from a well-intentioned place. She knows that with me, even if sometimes that means I'm harsh on people via personal responsibilioty requirements.

We weren’t completely on opposite ends politically but my last GF supported Trump for the most part, whereas I never like him at all so, it could have been a problem I guess but we hardly spoke of politics specifically for that reason. It didn’t go well the few times we did

Doesn’t Kelly Ann Conway have a super liberal husband?

That one I have no idea how they haven't gotten a divorce unless Kellyann is a mole in the administration. I mean, this tweet, holy fricking shite.

Break up and move to a place where people have common sense and can think on their own.

Totally agree with this. You can disagree on my things, but is you are 180 degrees on political philosophy, that means you have 180 degree differences in values and priorities. Not a good combo for a long lasting marriage.

Eventually, unless extremely lucky or do not discuss at all, it will cause an issue. It isn't just legit political talk either. Can flow over into movies, etc.

Me. SO’s dads family is very close to JBE. They are all super Lib. Her moms side is conservative as they come.

When we first started dating, she leaned Dem. Now she is probably 80/20 Repub

When my wife and I started dating, she was republican and I was liberal but she was only republican because her older brother was and she was sort of brainwashed by him. She actually had very, very liberal beliefs and mindset then.

Then I turned extremely conservative and she did too once she understood the issues from a real-world perspective when we both graduated from LSU.

Last night our five year old caught a bit of the news before we could turn it off and the riots were on. He said, without any promt whatsoever from us, "why don't those cops shoot those bad guys in the street?". I looked at my wife and smiled, then gave my son a great big hug and told him I love him.

Apparently we're raising him correctly

Agreement on money, raising kids, retirement, etc are all more important imo. women tend to be more liberal than men because of their emotional nature.

I was married to a girl who was a STAUNCH “Trump hater” and while I don’t consider myself a “Trump supporter”, I don’t really take a side and give everyone, including the President, the benefit of the doubt, barring inexcusable evidence of wrong doing, etc. And always had to ask to take a beat and not just toe her position line without considering the other points of view...

My divorce was finalized a little over a year ago.

eta: Obviously I didn’t get divorced over differing political views, it was systemic of a BUNCH of other issues that we disagreed on. And like Louis C.K. said, “No happy marriage ever ended in divorce”
