Funny I just posted my experience with this over on the Poli Board, this may be a better place for that discussion so here's the repost:
I have a lib wife who has gone completely over the deep end, I'm a registered independent who votes R or D based on what's happening and how I feel about things.
Tensions here have been building since the democratic mayors/govs started their hard lockdown crap during the WuFlu. And this week it has only ratcheted up even more in the house.
I brought up Brees tonight at dinner because we both love him, but she just about started melting in her seat. She told me she hates my white privilege, so I told her to shove her white guilt back up her arse because it was leaking on the furniture.
Good times.

Try talking about the below things instead of political issues. Trust me, regardless of where either of you stand, these topics below are much healthier to talk about than divisive politics.

Aren't you the type of persona here that no Lib is worth a shite? And you date one? And you want to substantiate 5 years of putting up with it?
Man. The PT is going to see this, Sir.

If James Carville and Mary Matalin can make it work in a marriage for 27 years anybody can make it work if they want to make it work.

Yah that sounds even more stressful than my situation. We had a healthy conversation last night - I showed her some Brees theads on TD and had her notice the upvote / downvote ratio and told her this was essentially the culture and mindset that I spent the first 30 years of my life in.
Wish you well, mate - maybe try explaining calmly why both of you feel the way you do.

Haven't you made this same thread 2 or 3 times already?

She’s not really a typical liberal. On our first date we discussed the Scott Walker recall efforts and how she had voted for Walker. She absolutely abhors Trump and my love for Trump is very well documented, so basically we haven’t been talking politics in many respects for over 2 years now.
She’s a true fiscal conservative - she is just kind of pie in the sky about education being the answer and bending over backwards during these times to help end this tension. I think it’s fantasy but she has logical examples from her life to justify her feelings, so I respect that.

Isn’t that all that should matter?
People that tell you money doesn’t mean happiness are completely wrong

Differ on many things. Once you're married it's over. They ain't talking with you, they're talking at you. Only strategy I've found is to say I ain't talkin' about it no more.
Not sayin' you can't have relationships with differing values than yours, but it'd sure be nice if you were aligned with the big stuff. Otherwise...

Two things you should always confirm with a partner before marriage. Whether or not you are both equally yoked in your relationship with Christ and whether or not your political views are aligned. If those two things match up the rest should fall into place.

I don't know, focus more on the things you have in common?

We’ve had different political views for years. Fortunately for him, the left has gone so off the fricking rails that I’m drifting more in his direction.
I was always moderate to begin with though.

My wife is a traditional, conservative Republican. I'm pretty much a libertarian. We don't agree on everything but I can't recall us getting into a political argument.
I couldn't date a Bernie chick or a pussy hat wearer. They wouldn't like me anyway so it wouldn't be an issue.
