It only suggests that if that's what you want it to suggest - there are far more important reasons to live somewhere than crime...each to their own and all that. Non of that, nor your anecdote, means that crime is worse in rural America than it is in most major cities. I live 10 miles from downtown Augusta, Georgia, a pretty violent mid-size city statistically speaking, and I never lock the doors to the house....when it is accidentally locked I always have to remember if I even have a key. Never had ANY crime at all in my neighborhood. I grew up inside the perimeter on the west side of Atlanta when Atlanta was the murder capital of the US and violent crime was really bad as was crime in general. We did not lock any doors, cars or house, and never had any sort of crime committed against any of us or our property. None of that means anything, the statistics are clear. crime is as likely to happen anywhere but it is particularly likely to happen in rural areas compared to most major cities....and the reason is as clear as the nose on your face, its exactly why bait fish swim in schools and ain't loners, it works with all predators and all prey.....there is safety in numbers for individuals.

Of all the places I split time, Boise is the most liberal. I'm sure once you leave the city it changes quickly but the 2 time mayor there is a Democrat from DC.
