High income earners raise the average really high. The median will be much lower.

LMAO...There is plenty of fat in your hypothetical there.

Vactions? That's a luxury.

Probably bought too much house and too much car.

Examine your spending and consumption choices before complaining.

The Fed builds in a 2% inflation target into their numbers. That's a 2% tax increase every year. You ever hear anyone complain about it?

That’s just not true.

This. Combined income my ole lady and I make around $300k but after school tuition, day care, car note, camps, savings/investments feels like there's not much left over. $483k would be a hell of a lot more comfortable,

The old lady and I earn about $300k combined. Even in central MS, with kids in college, that doesn't go as far as one thinks. Too many variables.

Source?

I stare at this stuff all day everyday, your average OTer is not paying anything close to a 50% effective tax rate. LMAO.

Are we overtaxed for what services are provided? Absolutely.

Don't outright lie to make a point.

ETA: Do you know how to calculate an effective tax rate?

Hint: you cannot take the withholding from your paycheck to determine the effective rate.

Vacations are a luxury.

I travel a lot but it'd be the first thing cut easily if needed.

Money really isn't worth what it used to be. People used to be excited by getting a six figure salary, but I think you need more like 160k or more to buy What 100k used to get you

Also note that most people today don't really have a savings account.

Bay St Louis is a different beast. We live comfortably here on that though. I don’t own a nice boat however.

You got a spending/expense problem, not an income problem.

BS you could have an older car with no payment, screw travel ball, and cut out summer camp.

There was a recent study showing that happiness seems to plateau around 75-80K. I lived on 50k very comfortably for 4 years after grad school, albeit in low cost of living areas and not taking pricy vacations. If people think they need 200K+ just to be comfortable then they need to reassess their lifestyle.
