America can't deal with a pandemic...

This isn't about politics, it's about society and culture.
I remember when we were tracking this in November in China; and the Chinese were literally barricading roads and locking people inside.
We discussed it then, our country could not deal with a big epidemic as efficiently as they could. Our population, any free populace, would not tolerate the steps required to isolate something.
We also don't have the patience to wait it out. People bitch whenever Amazon doesn't show up in two days, people got tired of sitting at home after about a week with this.
You have groups of people swearing this is all fake, and their evidence is that there's not piles of bodies on the side of the road. You have folks insulting each other for trying to take precautions. You see a ton of folks saying "it doesn't bother ME, so I declare the world is fine and safe, and I'm going to go do whatever I want".
Like I said, this isn't even a political observation, it's just looking at society.

Authoritarianism is better for dealing with something like a pandemic.
So yeah, a country founded on freedom and telling an authoritarian king to frick off wont do well.

I’d rather live in a free society like the USA and take our chances with these rare viruses rather than live like China and be ready for these once a decade or less instances.

We are a hardheaded country.

Americans are a resilient people. Just look at how we discovered that COVID-19 can't be spread during a protest.
The Founding Fathers were protecting us by creating the first amendment.

Forcing businesses to shut down, churches to close, among other things depending on your state should be met with blowback. The mandated mask was just the icing on the cake. This virus isn’t deadly enough to warrant any of that. If it killed 20-30% of the population that got it, young and old, that’s one thing, this virus isn’t doing that

Emotionally and mentally, no.
Because all the media/leaders have to do is overplay it and watch the views and clicks go up and play into the fear of the fringes of society. Tell them grandma's life is at stake and watch as people cower to every mandate deemed necessary.

I’d rather deal with the virus and keep our guiding principles as a nation. A government never gives back power earned during a time of crisis during a time of peace.

I was working a screening checkpoint at the hospital last week and had some older lady come through swearing that the whole thing was fake.
Yeah, it's real. Now we can debate the fine points of precaustionary measures and statistics manipulation, but the virus is a real thing.

Not to mention this thing has a death rate that is dropping every week. It’s just not as scary as everyone tried to originally sell it as

you (conveniently) left out the part about groups trying to control everyone else's lives because they are irrationally scared.

It helps if the the something is actually something.
Which is why there's a lack of compliance in this country. Many people see it for the political bullshite it is.

Yet you guys will run to re-elect trump.
Downplayed it, was unprepared, lacks direction & planning.
Now has a ton of blood & a broken economy on his hands,

You have tourettes, except that instead of randomly yelling curse words, you randomly yell about Trump in every one of your posts.

What? Do you think we should emulate the Chinese? Didn’t they also just ship a bunch of Muslims to concentration camps? Should we do that, too?
This country was founded with the idea of individual freedom to make a choice and be responsible for your own life. That comes with a risk. Always has, always will. I can’t afford another lock down. I’ll lose my job and eventually my house when I deplete my savings. I don’t have a problem with wearing a mask or doing my best to keep distance from people, but get fricked on this shut down.

quote:Every "disaster" breeds those looking for financial gain, especially in politics where states will beg for more and more money. Usually, it's just a region that has to beg at one time like when a hurricane, wildfire, flood, etc hits. What you have here is the entire country and 50 states looking for handouts and money and competing with each other. Not to mention the hospital systems competing as well. The worse they can make the numbers, the bigger piece of the disaster pie they get.
