Now, the convenience of quick delivery is the only real benefit to using Amazon locally. People will still use Amazon but will likely expand their searches now to other online sellers since sales tax will be factored in.

It'll affect mine. I'll probably cancel prime now, and use other companies that don't charge sales tax

It's about time. Louisiana deserves every single penny of sales tax that they collect since I'm sure the product sold was originated and manufactured in Louisiana. Even jet.com started collecting sales tax in Louisiana recently.

Amazon does not have a physical presence in LA, therefore they were not required to report to SoS.

It's easy to blame Edwards but this is actually a competitive balance issue for brick and mortar stores.

More power to them, but if you've got the Amazon store card you get 5% cash back on purchases. If I can get my monthly subscribe and save items plus other deliveries within 2 days, and do so with less than 4% effective sales tax (after the 5% card promo), I'm not going to budge.

BS. I buy my dog food on Amazon. The price is $15 to $20 cheaper per bag regardless of tax.

They had some four or five distributors in Louisiana that were non-Amazon who would have to leave the state costing us 50 jobs so it was collect sales tax or lose 50 jobs. Edwards forced Amazon into picking 50 jobs.
There are alternatives so no big deal. eBay just hit benefitted from this move.
