What? You don't like going to Best Buy having to battle mall traffic and then deal with some snarky 19 year old salesperson who is making minimum wage trying to sell you what you don't want?
Man frick ordering from Amazon in my pajamas and getting it delivered to my home two days later. I'd rather spend the gas money and deal with traffic and everything else.

The state wants it because it's another revenue stream (win for Democrats) Local merchants want it because it helps them compete with Amazon (win for LABI)
The only people who don't want it are us, the consumer.
Here's my one (rhetorical) question for the Legislature -- What tax already on the books will be decreased with the addition of this new revenue stream? Obviously we know the answer to that question.

FWIW, Amazon still participates in state sales tax holidays when they occur. There are usually 2 or so a year in LA.

now i can't find where i saw that. i imagine the lowest tax for any parish/municipality is 3%, thus the 8% total. but now that i can't find the article, i can't say for certain whether this is even true.

They'll all eventually collect sales tax. It's just a matter of time. Technically you have to report use tax if the company doesn't collect sales tax but hardly any one does that because 1) they are unaware of use tax or 2) they don't care and it is hard for states to catch it. States will adapt their legislation to catch up with e commerce eventually, though.

Seriously though....Amazon has been adding tax here in AZ for I don't know how long. Hasn't affected how much I use Amazon one bit.
Does this mean Amazon will have distribution centers finally in LA? Cause paying taxes on Amazon stuff isn't so bad if you are actually able to participate in their programs such as 1-2 hour shipping, same day shipping, etc.

Alabama has a rule where online retailers charge 8% flat - 4% going to the state, 2% going to the county, and 2% going to municipalities proportionally based on population, or something to that effect.
I'd imagine LA will do something similar.
