AC management strategy when you go to work

It’s just me in a big house so when I go to work, is it better to turn the AC off and come back to a hot as hell house it takes about an hour to cool off or should I set the thermostat to 80 when I go to work And then turn it down when I get home. Which way is cheaper

Your house would get to 80 in just a day after being cool all night?

Ours goes from 70 at night to 74 during the day. It doesn't kick on until the afternoon.

My thermostat goes on 75° while I’m working and 72° when I’m back inside the house. 70° at night while sleeping.

Set it to like 74-76 for daytime. Mine stays at 72 during the day and 69-70 at night.

That actually uses more energy than setting your thermostat and forgetting it.
Cooling a house is not just about dumping cold air in to cool. Your AC also removes humidity to help reach the temperature you set it to. When the system is turned off, dehumidification stops, so indoor humidity can rise. When the AC comes back on, it may take longer to remove that moisture and make the house feel comfortable again.
Bumping the A/C up too much or turning it off = less run time = more humidity

If you do bump it up, a small 4-6 degrees difference is recommended, and keep your fan on auto.

It will work more efficiently maintaining a set temperature than it will trying to cool your whole house by 10 degrees.

This is accurate. Just leave your thermostat at the same temp all day. It takes less energy to simply maintain a temperature than it does to try to cool back down to the desired temp after being set higher or turned off during the day.
Just put it on 70 and leave it alone.

No. That would be the new high-pressure gas they use, and the coils now being made out of 100% aluminum instead of a mixture including thicker copper at the bends. The coils I see failing are all failing due to pressure blowing holes in those elbows that used to be copper.
You can thank the EPA for doing away with a gas like R-22 or 410-A where a system would last for 20+ years
