No because as an asymptomatic carrier you can still pass the virus. If you are immune you won't pass the disease to others

Do you though? I haven't seen a consensus on that.

but if are asymptomatic (or have very mild symptoms), you probably won't have long-lasting antibodies

So why should an asymptomatic person care if they get “it” more than once???? They are asymptomatic so by definition they are not effected.

In case you weren't aware, this data means a vaccine is far less likely to be possible.

But please, keep freaking out about the common cold.

False. Every recent article Ive read makes it seem like they are more confident than ever a vaccine is possible

There's no concensus either way, and it does seem asymptomatic carriers do seem to be less of spreaders than symptomatic carriers, but in the simplest terms, the virus is still living in you if you are asymptomatic, if you are immune you kill the virus so how could you spread it?

If you are in a car wreck and you aren't hurt, but the other driver is killed why would you care?

Honestly I think the only consensus is that it's called covid-19 and it's caused by SARS-CoV-2. Everything else is unknown for certain.

People with sense have been saying from the beginning...yet here we sit trillions of dollars later, thousands of ruined businesses later, in the same damn boat we were 3 months ago.

Flu mutates year to year.

This apparently doesn't.

So apparently most of the antibody tests are looking at IgM as opposed to IgG (which would indicate longer immunity).

If they were testing for IgG they are running a shitty test given how long it lingers even absent a instigating stressor. It should still test positive in these time frames.

Only if they were dependent upon antibodies to make the vaccine, but that's not how it works.

If case you weren’t aware, this data means literally nothing of the sort.

This just suggests that memory B cells don’t really get involved in the mild/asymptomatic cases. The virus clears before IgG antibodies are made.

That is the literal opposite of how vaccines work, by introducing lingering antigens that activates memory B cells.

What about the part where if you have had a cold recently it shows as COVID antibodies?

The testing is still all over the place and should be taken with a grain of salt.

I don't think you understand what asymptomatic means. It simply means you aren't currently showing symptoms. It doesn't mean you can't and won't show symptoms. If you get it a second time, you might not be asymptomatic the second time around.

If antibodies don't last, how do we know the vaccine will last any length of time?

The common cold can be caused by a coronavirus so it's possible with an antibody test that doesn't have a high level of specificity for covid-19. It will not show as covid-19 antibodies though, just as some type of coronavirus.

Yep, which is why it's important to get a legit test like the Abbott test which is as close to 100% sensitivity and specificity to this coronavirus, covid-19.

Those of you screaming for herd immunity, may need to re-think that.

Since most people who test positive seem to have no idea they were ever sick, does it even matter?

Again, I'm not a vaccine maker, but I don't think antibodies are relevant to covid-19 vaccines. They aren't producing an antibody based vaccine.
