re: 35 days sober(alcohol). Longest I've been sober in 35 years. The benefits are obvious...

I hit 6 months today. I had slowly gotten out of control the last 10 or so years. I was drinking about a twelve pack a day. My life was a constant battle to drink just enough to feel great but not too much to be hammered. Most days I could pull it off. Some days I’d end up hammered. My whole life was going down the drain. It’s amazing not dealing with that constant struggle anymore. Alcohol had become the most important thing in my life. I’d wake up thinking about it and go to sleep doing the same thing. That’s a horrible way to live.
Someone above asked what changes. For me, everything. My relationship with God is the best it’s ever been. My relationship with my wife and family is the best it’s ever been. I’ve lost almost 30 pounds. No empty calories and I’ve gotten a lot more active. I also eat way cleaner not being drunk daily. Life is awesome. The hardest part for me was coming to the realization that I just can’t drink. No matter how much I tried to control it, one was never enough.

Good for you.
I quit smoking after 20 years. Almost 20 years without one now.
Don’t let stress in other parts of your life be an excuse to start again.

Congratulations. I can't imagine trying to function with that amount of drinking. I pray that this brings my closer to God, my family and sober friends.

I've been a once or twice a week drinker for probably 35 years... binge drink a few times a month maybe.
What do you consider binge drinking, because you’re pretty much sober already.
ETA: nvm I read your updates. Great job on 35 days!

Congratulations, 4B!
Only advice is to focus on and appreciate the positive results you’ve got and as another poster said, one day at a time!
Really work on that list of positives- add to it any little thing that you think of.

30 and 90 days (roughly speaking) are important milestones.
The first 30 breaks the dopamine dependence. At 90 days, the level of dopamine pathways begins to return to normal and brain starts building new balanced pathways for dopamine uptake.

Drinking wasn't made for women and children.

Yea and then once youre around all your friends and theyre all having a drink and you arent, you will succumb or just feel like youre missing out.

Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

I’m kinda with Zach Top here, the whole sobriety thing is a fad that has jumped the shark (not directed towards OP necessarily)
Look, if someone is a true alcoholic then sobriety is a must. No questions asked. But we are in a time where people who aren’t alcoholics have to go completely sober yada yada
Being completely stone cold sober is not going to have any material benefits on someone who is a responsible moderate of light drinker. In fact, it could at times have detriments

Can never relate to daily drinking, as I’ve only used socially, but when I think back: in all of my greatest regrets alcohol was involved.
It’s literally a product of death. Dead plants get fermented and the poison gives us a buzz.

The sobriety fad has killed the music scene in America (Zach top sucks btw industry plant)

I work turnarounds in plants.
So I work for months at a time. I quit drinking during those months I work.
Never felt any better or worse. I think it’s all in your head. Placebo effect.

Alcohol is an introduced poison, it is not manufactured by the body and your body has no receptors for it. It acts on your nervous system because it is a toxin. There are no “benefits” to health by introducing it and no “detriments” to not introducing it
This is up there among the dumbest things I’ve ever read here

Congrats to all who have gotten off the alcohol or cut down. It's a disease.
The American Society of Addiction Medicine says for a man no more then 3 drinks a day and no more than 14 a week. For all women and for men over 60. No more than 2 day and 7 per week. These are good guidelines. They have not released how much a Trans should drink.

Well, a man has to be a man.
I've stopped cold several times, because being a caregiver 24,/ 7 sometimes requires critical thinking skills in a spontaneous moment.
It never bothered me when other people drank; I had already made my decision.

Its progress, cold turkey has failed in the past a few times. Once I get used to this being my new reality, I can take another step. I can mentally tell this is something I can do.

Check your privilege
Some cultures developed with alcohol (Irish, possibly German, etc) and it’s written in their dna
Would you take a fish out of water?
