I was a functioning alcoholic for about 15 years, drank daily mostly beer, some brown drank and got in the tequila when I wanted to get to black out state.
One day I just tired of feeling like shite every morning, being fat and depressed so I put it down.
Exercise has really helped me, walking is free and most places have trails, you can set up a simple home gym with a weight bench, cheap TV and a few kettlebells.
Good Luck

You make me put my face in my hands. Im on week 3 of doing what youre quitting. Im a decade+ into a 1/5 of vodka a day on weekdays, and twice a day on days off. Im now down to not drinking on work days and only at night on days off. Im going to try to cold turkey entirely once football is over. I certaintly wish I had advice.

Losing 6 pounds means you created a calorie deficit of 21,000 calories over 35 days which at least 30 bottles of wine. How much were you drinking on your “once or twice a week”? What do you consider binge drinking?

Don't put it off until after football season, face the problem now.

Ten years ago, cancer treatment forced me to teetotal for 6 months. It was incredibly easy. But the day the doctor cleared me to drink again, I did.
However, I quickly realized how much it affected my mind and body, and I took longer and longer abstinence stints. 8 months here 9 months there.
COVID pumped up the drinking volume a bit, but I did a long break in 2022.
Then nearly two years ago I just stopped completely. Nothing triggered it (no benders etc). I just said meh I don’t want alcohol.
I don’t crave it at all. Any environment.
I guess for me it’s no longer that XYZ are the benefits of not drinking, but more that I couldn’t imagine how shitty I would feel if I drank. And at nearly 52 with two young rambunctious boys, a career and many many projects and endeavors, I am not sure I could function at all.
I’ve never been a “one drink” drinker. Never understood the point. I can certainly moderate. But I don’t think I’ve ever had just one drink ever.
Anyway, I guess my advice (sounds like we’re about the same age) is, just let it happen. If you made it 35 days, then you can make it another 35.
(I know the advice is one day at a time, but I’m less conscious of the “process” than that.)

I made the decision to keep living. I look back shocked.
Keep your head high, 35 days is something to be proud of. I felt like after 90 days it was an bit easier.

If you have elevated blood pressure it should moderate.

Advice? I’m about to ask you for advice.
I’m not one of those crazy drinkers, the bottle a day first thing the morning type. More the “just a couple glasses of wine” most nights.
Sunday - evening couple/few.
M- 0
Tues - 0
Wed - maybe. 50/50 for a couple.
Thurs - maybe 50/50 for a couple.
Fri- until feeling right. Not drunk, stupid or sick, just relaxed, like right now is a good example.
Sat - same as Fri maybe a little more right.
That's kinda been me, but I would have just enough mid week to not want any till the weekend then shite faced one weekend night. My body would tell me no more for a few days but my mind was always looking forward to the next time I drink. Either time I always felt like crap the next day.
One thing I left off is that I always put off household projects like cleaning the garage, building shelves, cutting the grass, painting....until I was I knew I was going to want to drink. That is exhausting. These last few weeks have been completely different in that I just to those things without thought.
Thanks again.

I did a 3 month no drinking at the beginning of the year. Before my last bloodwork.
Picked it back up after that for the summer and just stopped again for another couple months. Trying to do it in waves.
I was heavy into the bourbon and cokes. Going to NA beers has helped as there are a few out there that have 0% or less than 0.5% alcohol that help with the cravings that are surprisingly good.
It’s tough and I applaud anyone who can quit cold turkey.
For example last night I would have killed for a Jack and Coke with my pizza for dinner…
Trying to take control of my health one step at a time.

My only advice is to maintain the momentum. The more you maintain the easier it gets. Build that confidence, dude!
Life is so much better without the drag that shite brings not to mention how much more money you're going to have.

Stop putting it off. If you have to drink to enjoy football, then quit watching football and find something more active to enjoy.
Start today. When football season is over, you’ll find another excuse.

I said a prayer for you today. Wife and I both grew up in alcoholic homes .
We saw both her parents become sober . AA worked and the impotence of meetings and a support system cannot be overemphasize.
My grandfather raised me and whiskey raised him. At age 67 he came to Jesus and never touched a drop again .church was his support.
You can and will do this . One day at a time sweet Jesus, that's all I am asking for you

I don't eat after 6pm, don't eat breakfast and watch my carb intake the rest of the day.
I was drinking a six pack of IPAs and a bourbon or two for my midweek. On the weekend binge it would be 10-12 IPS and a few bourbons.

You also don’t exercise while drinking and tend to eat more, at least I do. Weird post.
