I am on a three month alcohol break. My energy level is way up and feel better all around. I am 45 and only was drinking on Friday/Saturday. I am/was active but alcohol was taking those gains away. My energy and fitness level is way up since starting the break.
This is common with my friends in their 40s. A lot of us are on some journey of giving up or cutting back alcohol.

I made 10 years sober in June. Never in my life did I expect to not have a drink in 10 years.
My life is better now in ever way, mentally, physically, financially and spiritually. Oh, and legally too. Legal repercussions are what finally forced me to make it stick. Jail sucks terribly, I learned the hard way.
The first 2 years were extremely tough. It’s only been easier from there.
Keep at it, be proud of that accomplishment, and remind yourself every single day that 1 sip of vodka or beer will throw it all away and make everything in your life WORSE.

If you're referring to me, I had a lot more than 2-3 drinks. Probably averaged 18 beers and 4-5 bourbons per week over a two day period. I never said I was a full blown alcoholic, but it seemed to consume my mind and it became exhausting.

Awesome!
Alcohol made me frickin stupid
Last drink was early Sunday morning, March 2 1997.
Three days before my 30th birthday. Didn't think I would live to see it.

By what you stated you weren’t an alcoholic by my sense of the definition.
This is like saying I’m gonna stop listening to opera. But hey, you do you and here’s your pat on the back you’re looking for.
Thanks. I was looking for advice and maybe a few encouraging words, not a pat in the back, prick.

Congrats. My break is more “I hate feeling low energy next morning” than anything.

Congrats, I went all the way from january to after Lent this past year (100 or so days) I felt amazing in that time.
I just like the taste of draft beer in the sun too much. Now I drink 3 beers or so every weekend and it has helped keep me in check for most part. Tricky part for me is always football season/holidays

I’ve been there, and yes that is a level that absolutely isn’t good for you and you will feel like a brand new human stopping it

Congrats!
I made the decision to give up alcohol on 3/24/26. I feel better, lost 17 lbs, sleep better, gut health is best it’s ever been.
I was a nightly sipper but turned it up socially. Got a ride home from a friend after over indulging. Wife got up the next morning and saw my truck wasn’t home. She was headed to church to work the nursery and I had to wake up our son to bring me to pick up my truck. I was embarrassed to say the least, but knew then that I had to make a change if I was going to keep my family.

Congrats, my man. Keep it up. As another poster said, 1 day at a time.

Congrats! Great job!
Now that you have the streak going, don’t ever let the streak end.

Keep a close look on your sleep patterns. That was a tough one for me for the first 3 months.

I suppose I'm just tired of thinking about the next time I'm going to drink and want to think about, and look forward, other things.
Any advice is appreciated?
Replace the addiction. Running, swimming, cycling, gym, cooking, reading, art, etc

Easy to quit drinking. I’ve done it hundreds of times.

One thing I started doing to replace the addictive properties of alcohol
Is writing a recollection or memoirs of all my drunken years as a way to exorcise some demons and find complete closure.
What’s sad is how many of those years are filled w blackout gaps for periods of time unaccounted for.
The other helpful thing was moving away from New Orleans. I had to retire from the eternal party. It’s way easier to remain sober in a place like Utah.

3/4/24. Was drinking 5 fifths a week plus beer for years. Ended up with alcoholic neuropathy. Now, I’ve lost 85 pounds and I actually dream again.

Its a young mans game. Good for you bubba. Life is way better without constantly poisoning yourself in virtually all aspects.
