Why does it seem like the 200th anniversary was so much of a bigger deal? Like the 250th anniversary seems to be barely a bigger deal than the 249th or 248th anniversary.

I dunno. But I know 50 years ago my mom sewed me an outfit and made me dress up like a patriot and march in our small town's parade.

We had a 4th of July play at school, and my mom sewed/crafted a complete, very accurate George Washington costume, complete with a powdered wig. When we did plays my mom always "won" the day. My Bob Cratchit get up was off the chain.

This is a bigger one to me because I was 4 in 1976.

To be fair a 100 year anniversary is twice as big of a deal as a 50 year anniversary. 2076 is probably gonna be fuxkin lit

All even #s tend to get a bigger response.

Plus, Americans tolerated each other much more back in the 70s

There are a lot of people living here that take this country for granted in 2026. That wasn’t really the case in 1976.

Some things never change.

Democrats lack critical thinking skills.

Just the way it is...

That reminds me the 1976 Freedom Train
Is anyone here old enough to remember?
A rolling 25 plus car musem of American history from 1776 to 1976.
Visited all contiguous 48 states in 1975 and 1976
Full of priceless artifacts and memorabillia. Armed guards were everywhere
Cool as shite

Or maybe, just maybe it’s because the Grifter in Chief decided to make it all about his own self-aggrandizement.

Ah but yes, anyone who opposes your “dear leader” obviously only does so because they have “tds”…or are “lib-tards” that hate America, right?

Remember how Hunter Biden was so terrible when he was on the board of some Ukrainian company and made millions while his dad was VP? Your boy Trump made $2 billion last year grifting while he was president. Trump hasn’t drained the swamp, he’s turned it into a cesspool.

Democrats hated America in '76, too. It was just political suicide to openly admit it, then.
