Oddly enough the Celtics got caught holding the bag on their picks a decade ago and it took being awful and landing Tatum and Brown to change their luck.

Ainge had good reason to not unload the war chest on a star. I'm not sure why Boston is not a glamour market, but it isn't. Stars just don't want to go there in trade and Ainge didn't want to pay full freight on a rental.

Where Ainge went wrong is outside of Brown he didn't draft well with the extra picks, although he did ok with Boston's picks. Most of this core that has become the top team in the league was drafted by Ainge.

Pels still have the 2027 MIL pick unprotected. They could also trade their own 2024 or 2026 1sts which carry (unlikely to convey) swap options with MIL.

not advocating this or any particular trade but they do have plenty of ammo

IF fully healthy, then your playoff rotation should largely be 8 or maybe 9 players. As it stands, I think starting lineup stays intact:

CJ, Herb, BI, Zion and Jonas

And then even though Jose has struggled recently, I still think Jose, Trey and Larry make 8.

Naji has to be the current leading candidate to possibly see the court. I love Dyson, and he could certainly come in for certain matchups or if Herb gets fouls. But he’s a rookie.

Graham seeing the court calls for a riot.

So in my head, we are saying do we want Bojan instead of Naji coming off the bench for minimal minutes? I mean, I do. But very iffy on a first to do it.

Just trying to put it all out on paper(screen) a bit.

Probably has to do with this sort of stuff lol:

quote:

Smart recalled. “ ‘Excuse me, ma’am, you better get out of the street before you and your son get hit. Cars are coming. I don’t want you to get hit.’

“As soon as I said that, she looked at me – as she is wearing a No. 4, green with the white outline Celtics jersey – and told me, ‘F— you, you f—ing n—–.’ People that actually heard her were stunned. They’re like, ‘That’s Marcus Smart. You just got done watching the game, ma’am … with an Isaiah Thomas jersey on.’ ”

quote:

“The narrative of Boston before you get there is that it is a racist town,” said Kevin Garnett, who led the Celtics to a championship in 2008 and the team recently announced will have his No. 5 Celtics jersey retired next season.

quote:

a national survey commissioned by The Boston Globe in 2017 reported that of eight major cities, black people ranked Boston as the least welcoming to people of color.

It's reputation as being more hostile to black people than other major cities seems to persist. On top of no one really ever thinking of Boston when you think of "glamorous." It's more NY, Cali, Miami. Those seem to be the big 3. To be fair to Boston though, those same players now speak fairly highly of the city. So I think it is a perception barrier more than anything.

I mean the 2025 Mil pick is almost assuredly going to be late 20's unless that team has some GS level injuries.

The Bucks are the oldest team in the league today. I wouldn’t count out a top 20 pick by 2025.

Getting rid of Graham's contract would be a huge plus. Adding a 1st to get a great 3 point shooter is a no brainer.

That 2025 pick is what we ended up paying Portland for CJ. We still have rights to it if it lands in the top 4, but that seems unlikely unless they have some key injuries.

Yall need to stop worrying about these damn picks and get a primetime shooter than can win us a championship.

Some of yall on this board seem to just not want to let go of this treasure chest. You have to fricking gamble at some point if you want to win.

This board is emotional and panicked right now

Stick the course and trust the process

Hard pass on using an unprotected pick for Bogdanovic.

We can offer them either our or Milwaukee unprotected 1st.

Which, not impossible so I'd prefer to protect it, but I also wouldn't melt if ultimately we got away with salary + a lightly protected Mil 2025 first. Since ultimately unprotected is Detroit's ask, which I doubt they get.

I know it’s ‘negotiating’, but it feels offensive even asking for an unprotected first.

Top-4 protection is needed for any future season pick. If Giannis goes down for an extended period in 2025, I don’t think a 33 yo Middleton, 35 yo Jrue and 36 yo Brook are doing much damage in the East. The 2025 Bucks are a lotto team without Giannis.

I guarantee you Bojan would take over the starting 2 spot from Herb.

This. If not, he's first off the bench and garnering a lot of minutes. It's possible we still utilize Herb in the starting line up with a fully healthy team strictly for his defense because we have 4 other players that are strong on offense.

That would be a lot of fun and I would love to see it on the court, but you can’t win anything of substance with that defense.

I’m open ears on improving Herbs starting spot, but defense has to be a given IMO.

This is why OG is my ideal target. He gives the shooting and the defense. Graham,Jax,Herb and 2-3 1sts (one of them protected) for OG and Achiuwa, that leaves us with an open spot and plenty of space under the tax to sign a buyout guy to 3 million

If we do agree to no protections on the first for Bogdanovich, I'd ask the pistons to include Alec Burks as well.

He'd be a good bench sniper, on basically same contract as Graham, except he only has next year left which is actually a team option, so could get out from his contract after season or hold on as a trade chip for ($ wise and play) next season.

Salary wise this is nearly impossible to do, Burks makes 10 million dollars, we couldn’t take that also without sending back Jonas or Nance.

A starting 5 of CJ,Bojan,BI,Zion, and Val would be so bad defensively.

On a side note, kudos to the Pistons GM. What a freaking great move to acquire Bogdanovich this past offseason in a trade for very little and apparently be able to flip him for a first-rounder just a few months later.

DG + Jax + Kira + Temple gets us to 27.5m

Bogi + Burks = 29.6

We could make it work without jonas or nance

Bogdonavic + Noel or Burks = $28-$29
Graham/Hayes/Temple/Billy = $26.6 million

The Pistons have a full roster, so you may need another team involved as a destination for Billy, but they could immediately waive Temple.
