He knows that: 1) He will be in a contract year 2) He will have a greenlight to chuck 3) we will be bad He is going to absolute try to score score score to get that next deal

Yeah, I’m concerned he’s going to be more worried about getting his rather than playing team basketball

Timberwolves sold for 4.5 billion

The reason this is notable is that the wolves are routinely ranked near the bottom of franchise value rankings along with the Pels and Grizzlies. This probably puts the value of the Pels franchise at around 4 billion.

I'm not really that sure we should be ahead of Sacramento either. This franchise is a fricking dumpster fire.

It’s pretty funny that both franchises suck because of ownership but each are at opposite ends of the spectrum. The kings owner is too involved and has his hands in everything including making the GM make awful trades or draft players that he likes. The Pels have an owner that could not give less of shite about the team and refuses to invest the requisite money required to be good
This is going to maybe be the worst attendance season in the history of this franchise. There is absolutely zero buzz or excitement around the city for this team.

Wow. I did not see that coming.

Neither did she
Don’t see 30 wins on that schedule
I’m super high on Tyson but for him to already be getting hurt is very disappointing considering his injury history.

This. We are just the most poorly constructed team in the league. We have MULTIPLE players that teams would love to have contribute to their team, but our group together is dirt.

We’re also an expensive team. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team so expensive that can’t shoot, rebound, or defend at even an average NBA level.
This is a solid contract, not great, not bad.
Mathurin is not good. All he does is score at OK efficiency. He doesn’t defend, he doesn’t pass, he rebounds only OK. He’s a completely empty calorie player.

Total Dumars move. This will lock us into 30 wins for the foreseeable future

Which the Clippers would immediately match, then we would have to give up a 1st to get them to not match. Same scenario as Devonte Graham

Yep. But I could totally see Dumars doing that and trying to sell it as his big splash move for the offseason. Mathurin is fine but he’s not moving the needle one way or the other
quote:

Would you trade Poole/Hawkins for MPJ, assuming it might take a 1st or 2 to get him, and you have to give him a large extension, likely 4/$200M? If you wanted a high volume efficient 3P shooter, there aren't many better than him in that role. I personally don't care for him, and wouldn't want to pay him that much. He's a low IQ player who isn't really a good defender or rebounder despite having the size and ability to be elite at both. I'd trade Zion straight up for him in a heartbeat.

I’d trade Zion for him in a heartbeat but I’m not giving up picks for MPJ
quote:

No point in using assets to dump him at this point. ZERO. More incompetence.

Agreed. The only reason you dump him right now is if you have another move already lined up like a sign and trade for Mathurin. Otherwise keep Hawks expiring 7m. That combined with Poole gives you 41m in expiring money to use at the deadline
quote:

its not often teams don't give lottery picks their 4th year option. you have to really really suck after your first 2 years for that to not happen. I seriously doubt anyone was saying we shouldn't have picked up that option after his 2nd year in the league.

While that’s true, Hawkins was the exception. He was drafted to do one thing, shoot. He didn’t even have potential for any other skills. After his first two years it was pretty clear that he doesn’t make 3s at a high enough % to justify him being on the floor. At that point you cut bait and sign a shooter for the minimum
quote:

You think we guaranteed his deal so that we can give up a pick to get rid of him?

They guaranteed it before the start of last season. Dumars probably wanted to take a look at Hawk himself. Then realized he’s trash and now is going to dump him to get some flexibility. We did the exact same thing with Kira
Sounds like we’re trying to dump him. Grizzlies have an exception large enough to take him. Will probably cost a couple 2nds. That would give us ~15m under the tax but free agents are extremely limited at this point
Even fully healthy this team will struggle to make the play in. Not as many tanking teams in the west this year. I pray to god Dumars can see the writing on the wall with this team when we start losing to begin the season that this team needs to be blown up. I’m more scared that Dumars will use assets to try and improve this team
quote:

Replace Herb with another +38% SG taking 8+ 3's a game and boom.

It so much more difficult than that because that player also needs to be your best perimeter defender because Fears, Trey, and Queen won’t be. Now you’re looking for a unicorn. OG would be perfect but he’s not available and there.

I would see if we can get Myles Turner for Poole’s expiring without sacrificing much draft capital. He’s a bad rebounder but provides shot blocking and shooting at the 5 which would probably allow you to start Herb.

Fears/herb/trey/queen/turner would be a fun lineup.
quote:

Fears High volume 3pt shooter/ Herb Trey/ Bey Queen Defensive center A paint protecting C and a SG does more for this than you'd think. All you are really asking for is this future SG to be a 2 way player. You already have Bey/ Trey 3pt and Herb defense. Add another guy to do both and its not far from what you are asking.

Is your defensive center shooting 3s? Because if not you’re getting like 5 3PAs combined from 3/5 of your starters in Fears, Queen, and the center. That’s not a tenable offense in today’s NBA. It’s the same problem we had with the BI/Zion pels. Those teams were awful closing games because between Zion, BI and whatever center we closed with we didn’t have enough shooting on the floor and the offense crumbled
quote:

still think you can get away with 4-6 3pt for Fears with a good clip and a real SG to take off the pressure.

You cannot though. Fears has to become a high volume efficient shooter from 3 as a small guard. It would make roster construction even harder when it’s already going to be hard enough trying to build around Queen. If Queen and Fears are your core and they neither of them are volume 3 point shooters then you need your 3 other starters to not only be efficient, high volume shooters, they also need to be extremely good defenders to cover for Queen and Fears. Basically you need to surround them with 3 unicorns
