Man at this point. We might should give Boogie Cousins a call. It’s crazy that we couldn’t get 1 of these 2nd or 3rd string centers to sign with us while we have a gaping hole at the position.

Completely fake, as I don't think anyone thinks that Washington will be a top-ten team in the league in a couple of years, which is the only way we get that 2nd-round pick.
It gives us a trade exception, which is extremely valuable if we can't trade BI, because it means that we can take any center earning less than $10 million in a trade without sending out any players.
Washington also benefited from doing it this way, because it means that they didn't have to use their MLE, and they now have the flexibility to use that to sign someone else.
