Ok, so I watched the first 3 episodes.

I guess it's interesting enough to watch some more, and see if it starts to flesh out some.

Note- I'm not a book reader, although I have heard of the series and got the impression it is good.

Curious what other folks' impressions are; I don't want to post any open spoilers (first to do so in thread). I will say that whoever compared this to GoT (reviewers, etc)- they're off. And I don't just mean the depth of story, I mean the level of production value. Not in the same ballpark, even the first season.

I will also note, GoT grabbed my interest in the first episode and locked me in with the first season. So far with this,... not yet.

I just finished all 3, some changes from the books as expected but overall I liked it a lot. Been waiting to see this story get done with a big budget for a long time.

Yeah, agreed. We just watched the first one but something about it feels much less polished than GOT did, which is probably my favorite pilot of all time.

That said, I’m interested enough as a non booker reader to look forward to learning more about the world they’re trying to build.

I am a LOTR nut and also love Kingkiller Chronicles so I’m hoping for that type of experience here.

Hoping the young cast grows into their roles a bit, as they all felt a bit flat imo. The older actors, Pike and her warrior and Roose Bolton were really good.

The one guy reminded both me and wife of young Ryan Philipe

I think you were watching GoT.

Because this WoT is horrible. So horrible. It's the quality of FOX/ABC/CBS/NBC primetime shows.

It took all the book material and threw it out the window.

Horrible

What they did to Mats parents is unforgivable. Why? Matt isn’t a freaking loser and thief! And they changed the very core of the story, the magic system. Ahh, I could go full rant this pile of excrement, but it would serve no purpose. I officially hate Rafe Jutkins.

Midway through the first episode and I'm already over it. They've completely botched this for any book reader already. Other than that it's just bad so far. Very disappointed

This is terrible. Laughably bad. I'm not suprised but still, yikes.

Oh well. This will not make it past a couple of seasons.

i was one of the harsher critics about the direction it was taking and how the reviews were not overly positive. and i'd say i'm about 40-50% in agreement with my earlier predictions. meaning if if i thought it was going to just be absolutely terrible, it's only 40-50% terrible and i'm enjoying the other 50%. second episode was a bit more in line with the characters and flow i was hoping for.

my main problem with the first episode is that i think this thing has enough a built in audience that you don't have to rush it and build in a hook/climax in the first episode. i think they could have fleshed out more in the first episode and had the trolloc attack start right at the end.

i'll watch it with my wife this weekend who has no idea about it and see how she takes it.

Please remember this thread IS NOT FOR BOOK READERS.

It is for NON BOOK READERS.

Take discussion that involves the books to the book board, people.

Yeah, felt really rushed. Like a normal pilot where they're trying to grab the audience, but instead of "hinting" at trollocs at the end of the episode, they just flat invade by the dozens out of nowhere.

IDGAF about added backstory on Perrin/Mat, because they NEEDED solo scenes early on to give them any kind of depth for later. it worked for me, and did not take away from anything.

the sword thing bothered me. bigly.

I finished EP1 only last night.

I found the Mat/Perrin backstories to be good additions, personally. It added a little more grit to the fantasy, which I think is something that modern audiences prefer.

The pacing from the Trolloc attack on util leaving the village was insanely fast. Way too much time with the Wisdom ceremony (IMO) and not nearly enough time showing what an Aes Sedai is and how people in the Two Rivers view them.

I don't know, I enjoyed it. It feels pretty low brow/high fantasy at this point in time, but whatever. I'll watch it and enjoy it and hope that it deepens a bit as it progresses.

To be fair, the trollocs did attack by dozens from out of nowhere.

I never thought the series lends itself to TV bc it’s just too sprawling. Too many storylines, too many settings, too many moving parts. Much inner dialogue. 14 big books.

The first season shouldn't be a problem. For the most part, it's one storyline.
