re: Wheel of Time - Season 1 - Amazon - NOW A BOOK READERS THREAD

I don't want to go into detail and obviously book discussion should be taken to the Book board thread.
My understanding is that parts of Book 2 and 3 in there are pretty minor. There ARE elements of the Prequel in Season 1 as well.
The showrunner has said that he is adapting Wheel of Time, not individual books, and he does have to get 14 books and a prequel into 8-ish seasons.
So there will be a lot of condensing, characters and entire plots cut, etc. You may see things from very late in the series end up early in the show.

Again, this would be a better convo on the Book Board thread, but they did add scenes that are not in the books.

I feel like I'm in the middle. I don't want to look in the book reader thread because I assume it has stuff from all the books in it. I'll stop mentioning the books in this thread, though.

The trailer looks worse that The Witcher... I am not invested in this book series... I just hope they don't frick up the LotR series.

Hated to hear they are dropping 3 episodes. Im only on page 140 of book one, I knew i'd be past episode 1 but possibly not 2. I gotta pick up the pace.
How many episodes are in this season? They releasing one per week after the 1st week?

It’s getting shat on by critics and I can’t say I’m surprised just basing everything off the trailers
I’m still going to give it a try but man, it’s kind of disheartening when the best people can say is that it’s not bad

It’s RT score is fine. Still considered Fresh.
Most critics were given a cut when effects weren’t fully finished.

I wouldn't trust IGN if they told me the sky was blue.

Saying "that didn't suck" isn't the same thing as saying "wow, that was awesome!". Both would earn Fresh.

the rolling stone review specifically didn't read the book and said it was a GoT clone/ripoff. so i'd wager this will be correct for a number of critics.
I'm seeing this take A LOT.
It's just bad critics trying to ride the coattails of a successful show by giving a bad take on another show that is its totally own thing.
But it is refreshing to know which reviews are going to be full of shite when GOT is in the title.

I went and read all the full reviews on RT. Many of the Fresh reviews aren’t very glowing. Most of the YouTubers that cover and were allowed to go to London and see the first Six episodes are going overboard trying to forestall the coming outrage at the massive changes from the novels has me deeply concerned. I want the show to be good, but if the core of the story is changed, I will be pissed.

Is it the core of the story, or major story or character changes?

Looks like it may be released around 7 or 8 tonight.

Nice. Wife is working tonight. We're both working Friday night. We're both working Saturday night.
I'll just stay away from this board and pretend like it airs Sunday night.
