THIS IS NOW A BOOK SPOILERS THREAD
This is the Season 1 Thread for Amazon Prime's Epic Fantasy adaptation of The Wheel of Time.
The first 3 Episodes are being Released Nov 19, and then weekly after that. 8 Episodes in total.
This is based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time which spans 14 huge books and a prequel, selling over 90 million copies.
This is NOT Game of Thrones. It is High Fantasy.
Amazon has invested heavily in this, so I hope it turns out well.
If you are a book fan and want to talk about it with book spoilers, you can find the Book Board Thread here:

Enjoy!

Some other tidbits:
Review Embargo ended today and many critics have seen the first 6 episodes. The reviews so far have been pretty enthusiastic with the exception of Rolling Stone's Sepinwall who did not like it at all and spent 90% of the review talking about GOT...which this book series is really not similar to at all.
Amazon has also produced a bunch of Animated Shorts based on the History of the World of Wheel of Time that will be available as well. Those look cool.
Its also possible that this will actually be released Thursday night as they are aiming for a global release.

Last...they are already well into filming Season 2 and Amazon has already renewed it for Season 3.
So they are putting their money where their mouth is.

Amazon always releases its original content the day before around 7PM central, I’d be willing to be the first 3 will be up Thursday night.

Most people are speculating that it will be out at 7pm Central on Thursday so you are likely right.
it just has not been clarified yet.

About 100 pages into book 1. I’m a slow reader so it’ll prolly take me a couple years to finish all of them but pretty pumped about the adventure that lies ahead

Looking forward to this as a book reader.

It does make me a little nervous.
Its already been renewed for 3 seasons so if the first season isn't all put together, they do have some time to get it together a bit.

Not looking for book spoilers, but you've mentioned the first 3 books are Tolkeinesque because that was what publishers wanted at the time. If it starts out LOTRish, what does it become? Any comps? Does it take a hard turn like when The Man In the High Castle pivoted hard and abruptly from Historical Fiction to SciFi near the end of season 1?

Its not THAT hard of a turn.
Its still High Fantasy. But it does become a bit more "its own thing". It very much ceases to be an LOTR-esque tale (the first book is the most like LOTR).
It gets a lot more political (a la GOT, and GRRM has talked about the influence of WOT on his own series in this regard), a lot more sprawling and spread out...
And it does, in places, become a bit darker and much more uncertain about the fate of the world than LOTR ever was.
I don't want to say too much. Insanity, power, balance and gender dynamics become big themes.

Unless it’s The Eternals.

Not gonna lie, when I saw Rolling Stone didn't like it made me feel better. I pretty much never agree with them on anything.

What are they shooting for... 7 or 8?
I just hope it isn't rushed through and they can finish it appropriately and not be forced to squeeze an ending in before it's necessary.

They are shooting for 8 Seasons.

Where are the animated shorts you mentioned?
Posted on 11/16/21 at 3:55 pm to DukeSilver
They will be available on the app when the show is available I think.

Is Game Of Thrones not High Fantasy????
Totally fictional unrealistic world...epic characters....fantastical creatures and powers....seems pretty high fantasy to me.
ETA I get GOT and WOT are completely different...but by the definition of high fantasy in my mind they are both high fantasy.
