Maybe it’s just me, but I thought almost the entire season was a fricking disaster. I feel like not a whole lot actually happened. Many episodes I got a headache.
I agree with all of this. The season went nowhere. It was so frustrating. How many shots of Carmy's face can we get. The finale was a snooze fest. Yes there was some tension but the whole season was tension and no reward. And Claire Bear needs to come back. She was about the only good thing in the whole series.
I'll watch Season 4 hoping for some kind of payoff.

Definitely not high. That's illegal in Texas. My point was she was good for Carmen and she's very easy on the eyes.

Carmy's best foil is Sugar, by far. Claire kinda sucks

ETA: Spoilers below for anyone who hasn't finished.
Yup, I finished the season and after getting back to my home page I realized the story barely progressed.
Carm, when not staring into the camera shaking, is going through a breakup because he can't juggle running a restaurant and a relationship, which is understandable but had a breakdown about not being good enough for anyone. This mindset comes from a chef telling him to quit every 5 seconds. I don't even know for sure the timeline of this season, was it a few weeks? Couple months?
Sydney receives a job offer and doesn't know what to do because she feels so connected despite quitting once and constantly arguing with Carm.
Tina's background gets shared. Feel like that's kind of a wasted episode.
Neil and Natalie had strong seasons, glad to see them fleshed out a bit more, didn't need a whole episode of Natalie in the hospital.
I have honestly already forgotten if anything happened with Richie outside of him getting into it with Carm a few times and handling his ex. His whole issue has been trying to fit in, he kinda turned the corner after Spoons.
I know this is a very simple and lazy summary but this season didn't move the needle much for me and I legit feel like they didn't prioritize their time correctly/efficiently. Ironic when they keep saying every second matters.
I think the writers received too many pats on the back in the last couple of years. Went from a really intriguing story with characters that you legit love/hate and you have an interest in seeing how they grow together to hey let's just keep coming up with new ways to give the viewer anxiety.
Hoping season 4 brings closure.

This is my thought as well. Maybe I am a sucker for a redemption/success story. I don't mind some chaos but was hoping for progress. However, this season just perpetuated the chaos with no real payoff.

Just finished S3E1 and didn’t like it. Found myself checking 3 times how much time is left.
Is the whole season like this? I enjoyed the first 2 seasons but don’t need to continue if this is more to come.

Season 3 was ok but the weakest out of all of them IMO

I finished it up this weekend. The first 2 episodes are super slow and I agree with others that nothing really happens this season. The episode with the girl in labor was just a waste of time. With that said, I liked this season way more than season 2. I hated season 2 because it got away from the food and cooking but I understand others liked season 2

The passage of time was a few/several months.. indicative of the menu change/schedule they would flip to.
Richie is definitely gonna get with that chick from Ever eventually to cure his loneliness .. they have some chemistry .
Carmy- constantly tormented internally by Joel Mchale for ever how long he was there at that restaurant and he finally confronts him at the funeral dinner and he doesn’t even say bearzatto right. Indicating he doesn’t even really remember him or his name and carmy spent so much time tormented by someone who doesn’t care if he’s alive or dead . Maybe he can finally push past that shite how

No doubt.

Again this is true. Carm is severely traumatized by his past and his desire to succeed. We knew this. I just wanted more for him. I guess they convinced me to keep watching.

Yeah I'm not really understanding all the love S3 is getting. It was....fine. It is shot really beautifully and a couple episodes were really good, particularly Napkins. But you're right....nothing really happens.

I think that was intentional. He goes on to talk about how his training "worked", so he's aware of Carmy's accolades and reputation.

I do agree that David doesn't really give a shite about Carm at all.

I told a friend of mine after Season 1 that this show really only needs 2-3 seasons at most. After seeing reactions to Season 3, I think it’s pretty clear the showrunners thought that as well but it has been expanded by the network. They’re trying to milk it for at least a Season 4 and 5.
But in reality, the quality will probably dip again in Season 4 and then go back up in Season 5 once they’re allowed to grow more of the characters, give Carmy some growth and pay off some storylines. There’s no other explanation considering how tight and fast moving the first two seasons were. Not a single episode was wasted and expanded everything that Season 1 did in a beautiful and delicate way. Now, we’re at a standstill because the network wants as many seasons as possible. Even the episodes that people love this season are the ones where there is progression.

The first episode is one of the best episodes in the entire series. I agree on Episode 2, though.

totally agree. I thought it was absolutely stunning. The score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Finch was top notch.

Yep. Though I don’t think he did it to slight Carmy. Chef David probably has worked with and abused dozens and dozens of Carmy’s so he probably doesn’t even bother to learn their names. So I don’t think David knew his name until Carmy started winning awards and was being recognized as one of the best chefs in the world. And to Chef David, Carmy became that under his tutelage and only then did he become more aware of Carmen as a chef, still not enough to pronounce his name but he FOR SURE knows Carmy and probably claims him simply because he thinks he deserves credit for Carmy’s rise.
So no, he doesn’t give a shite about Carmy but he definitely knows who he is simply because it’s better for his ego and status in that world that he helped mold one of the best chefs out there

The season left a lot to be desired. I agree many episodes did nothing to advance the story.
The last episode gives you an idea of what to expect in season 4. The discussion about legacy tells me Sydney will leave to take the job as it falls in line with the legacy dialogue.
I also think Ritchie gets a new love and deserves one. He has had the best character arc throughout the show.
Not sure what will happen with the restaurant with his uncle no longer being able to fund it.
I assume Luca will join one of the two kitchens. Maybe with Sydney since they seem to be hitting it off and he mentioned he would be town for a while.
I also would not be surprised that the show ends with Carm hanging it up

It’s never specifically addressed but in episode 1, they keep showing the closeup of the scar on carmys hand…
Are we to speculate that that was from self harm of some type?
Claire bear sort of alludes to it with her story of the drunk girl .

Do we really know if the review was good, bad, or indifferent?
Was the ending just another play on all the various flash dream sequences (great, horrible etc..) Carmy had about the review or just that the Computer and the Uncle were blowing up his phone as soon as the review got posted?
