It’s never specifically addressed but in episode 1, they keep showing the closeup of the scar on carmys hand…

Are we to speculate that that was from self harm of some type?

He said in one of the episodes this season he grabbed a pot and was not paying attention. I assume it had to with the chef he hates stressed him out and was rushing to make some dish.

Maybe the flashbacks to it are him thinking is it all worth it.

I told my wife that those 3 or so bites would probably be amazing but I’m going to need to get a burger on the way home.

The neck tat guy pouring the broth in front of the couple then bringing it back to the back had me crying. He thought he knocked it out of the park.

I agree with the sentiment that the individual episodes were better than the sum of the parts. Not much progression at all.

I love him and his character...

The irony of being an acclaimed/"celebrity chef" in his own right just makes that character fricking SOAR.

I've ate at a few fine dining restaurants and a I've actually eaten at Daniel in New York which is on the show. It is still to date our favorite dining experience.

The portions aren't as small as they look and there is usually about 7 plates for a tasting menu. They are spaced out and they bring you all different kinds of breads and other things between plates so you do get full

Back on the subject, my wife and I have finished episode 7. It is a slog. This is definitely the weakest season.

If you pause the review shows it was somewhat mixed. Good and bad but not what they were hoping for.

I don't think we ever got the review. That was just different options he imagined in his mind.

The review comes out at the end of the season and he doesnt open it yet. So it's a cliffhanger on what it says

Is it just me, or was this season just absolutely terrible? Doesn't seem like anything happened. Complete waste of time. I feel like the writers tried to go too high brow with this season.

Definitely felt a little too high brow as you said. I've been thinking about it and I would have liked it more if they would have done something like dish collaborations with the other chef or their thinking on what flavors they are going for in certain dishes. Just getting in the minds of the chefs coming up with the plates instead of constant yelling. Even showing them actually cooking the freaking dishes would have been ok. They needed some down moments to offset the high tension moments.

Watching episode 7 now, so far episodes 3 and 6 have been my favorite.

I agree. I bombed out of multiple episodes and had to go back to them over and over to finish. Season 1 was the best, but staring at the eyebrows of chefs and tweezers for most of each episode in S3 is shite now. And yet another exhibit of bouncing back and forth in time without clear indicators or transitions, meh.

Yes but plan to be there for about three hours for the 7 course

The best part of season 3 were all the Faks and the haunting

There are a few tasting menu type restaurants in New Orleans. Foods good but it’s usually about presentation and creativity.

The Bear (show) had the same problem as The Bear (restaurant). Caught up in its own rapid success without any real vision on how to move things forward, so instead we were stuck in quicksand all season. Some decent moments here and there but mostly just self-congratulatory fluff.

I feel like all those conversations were some weird Chicago inside baseball stuff. I was legit tired of it really quick.

This season was weak. I think they knew it because they just shoved it all at us at once.

The episode where she gives birth was so dull and boring. And frankly she was almost as annoying as her mother.

Origin stories are really good if they are interspersed with real time events. The whole episode dedicated to that lady’s back story was not like that. I still liked the episode, but it should have not been the entire episode. The show that does this the best is the BBC Ghosts. All of the ghosts have dedicated backstory episodes but it is intertwined with the current episode.

The last episode was really good at parts. Hearing all the stories and banter from these world renowned chefs was cool, and easily the best part. However, the audience had been waiting all episode for Bear to confront McHale. Bear could have either gotten what he needed to off of his chest to McHale or McHale could’ve put him in his place. Instead, we got a little of both and that issue remains unresolved for the audience and for Bear.

I liked seeing more of Bear’s backstory, but other than that, I don’t feel like a lot happened this season.

I also would not be surprised that the show ends with Carm hanging it up

100% he’s going to get the star and then go the Marco Pierre White route, give them back and retire.

this season was a boring snoozefest. Long winded scenes, bear always looked constipated...loved 1 and 2, more action and drama in the kitchen

I’m through Episode 7 and am considering bailing. They’re sniffing their own farts now. It’s a parody at this point. Flashbacks showing poor me, mean chefs, etc. A whole episode to Tina getting fired? Who gives a frick. The mother and daughter chatting and sobbing at the hospital for 1/2 the episode? GTFO. I’ve fast forwarded almost 1/2 of the time with the constant rambling dialogue.

Enjoyed the first two seasons but this season sucks. The Watch podcast indicated that they only wanted 3 seasons but Hulu wanted 4. Perhaps that’s the issue.
