Went see tenet with the gf tonight. We were the only ones in the theater so didn’t have to worry about masks or anything which was nice. Was super good. I spent the first half confused as hell but once I started catching on I was hooked. Only complaint would be the way the sound was pieces together. It’s kinda hard to understand what’s being said in parts. I really want to watch again now that I know what to look for. Feel like I Probably missed some things in the first half.

@mikeryan

I've been struggling with how to cover a movie like TENET, a film trying to get people back in theaters in the U.S. during a pandemic when experts say it's the last thing we should do. And, morally, at all endorsing or normalizing something I wouldn't do.

Mike Ryan sounds like a pussy. The only reason I wouldn't go to the theater is if they force me to wear a stupid fricking mask while watching the movie.

Expecting $60mn 2nd weekend overseas for #TENET with China and Russia as two major new openers. Total by Sunday $130mn. In North America, expecting $17-20mn weekend, total by Sunday $24-28mn. Will cross $150mn worldwide.

China Box Office: Tenet make $8.96M on opening day incl $0.51M from midnights. The spy thriller is looking to make $30M-plus on 3-day opening. While local war pic The Eight Hundred gain $8.21M on Friday and have chance to win the weekend over Tenet. #Tenet #TheEightHundred

Yikes...that's far lower than estimates

Tenet receive average audience score of 8.7/10 on Maoyan ticket site. It's better than Dunkirk(8.1/10) but far from Interstellar(9.3/10). Maoyan Box Office system predict $67M lifetime gross, a number Inception earned from a much smaller Chinese film market ten years ago. #Tenet

It seems pretty pointless to compare box office receipts of any movie released during the pandemic to any movie not released during a pandemic and/or expectations of that movie’s receipts absent a pandemic. It’s like saying “SEC football” attendance is way down in 2020, despite a growing population in the SEC region.

China Box Office: Tenet debut with $30.06M for 3-day opening. Although this is the best start for Nolan’s movie, it probably will not be able to top Interstellar($140M lifetime) & Inception($68M) with average WOM. #Tenet

It's really not a film that can be fully absorbed in one sitting.

To fully string together the character timelines (especially Neil's at the end) will require multiple viewings along with perhaps a bit of self study. The film's events become quite elegant when things start clicking. Same with Memento.

Albeit it's understandable that some may not want this from a film. For those who appreciate Nolan's non-linear storytelling, though, this is right up their alley.

This is why the sound mixing didn’t bother me that much. Even if I understood clearly what was said, I wouldn’t be able to really do much with the information because my brain was too busy concentrating on the cause and effect of what I was witnessing visually.

Its not worth going to theaters any time soon. I don't want to deal with Karen complaining about someone sitting too close or not wearing their mask during the movie.

We went to a movie last weekend. It was the most normal, movie-watching experience we’ve had. This includes, popcorn, hot dogs, candy, drinks. Was awesome.

Can’t wait to go watch this.

It was just incredibly muddy. It was so hard to follow quite whaT was happening and why certain characters and their actions were important.

It had the bones of a great movie but I think it was just executed poorly and written likely more poorly.

I’m willing to watch again but yeah I agree with this. It’s almost as if Nolan is a making what he think David Lynch would do if he was asked to make a Chris Nolan movie.

The big problem for me is, unlike his other movies, this has no powerful emotional center. I barely care about the the characters in the first place to even go back and try to make sense of what’s going on.

I thought it was excellent. He didn’t take thirty minutes to try and explain the physics like In interstellar. Instead he did it by piecemeal throughout the movie.

It was well done. I still have a few questions and I can’t wait to watch it at home.

Top 4 Nolan movie for me. Very surprised how great of a job the twilight guy did. He was excellent. Far better than the lead.

This is a real problem with Tenet, and the fact that the core storyline it hangs its hat on feels
cribbed from a lesser kind of film.

While I respected the hell out of Tenet’s craftsmanship, this was a real disappointment for me and wears out its welcome far too early into its running time. Has the feel of Nolan becoming too self-aware of own auteurship.

You need to watch movies like Good Time and the lighthouse. He's a fantastic actor. Batman is in good hands.

So without giving too much info, why is this Nolan movie trending so low? Not woke enough? People finally realized he can't get a great editor? Poor story?

Usually people are creaming their pants relishing in the greatest movie ever in 15 threads a day by this point. This time it's crickets.

Good luck. China hates movies with black people in them. Plus, they killed or ran off all of their smart people decades ago, so no one there will understand the plot.

It’s too complex for a general audience. I love most Nolan movies and I do think this one will be better after multiple watches but your head is just spinning the whole time where you basically have no idea what’s going on until you watch it again or research it

I know several people who saw it and the main issue I keep hearing is the sound mix. Apparently it's really hard to hear the dialogue. Several posters here have mentioned that as well. I have no idea why Nolan thinks audiences are going to enjoy that.

What if you find Nolan movies to be pretentious? Some movies I’m fine with it but some movies of his I just find annoying And silly (inception and interstellar I’m looming at you)

The sound is downright horrible. You literally need subtitles to know what is being said. I can’t tell if it’s done on purpose or it was just missed
