I've been struggling with how to cover a movie like TENET, a film trying to get people back in theaters in the U.S. during a pandemic when experts say it's the last thing we should do. And, morally, at all endorsing or normalizing something I wouldn't do.

BOX OFFICE: #TENET pre-sales are outpacing ‘Dunkirk’ ($50.5M OW) and ‘Interstellar’ ($47.5M OW) from reopened/reopening theaters in the US, UK, & Australia.

It’s also worth noting that there is an influx of “single-ticket” purchases, coming in at a whopping 55%. (via @DEADLINE)

Still around 81% with over 110 reviews, kind of thought it would drop some once more came in

Wouldn't it be more surprising if it did go below 80%? I know Interstellar ended in the 70s, but I assumed only Insomnia would be lower, and that one shouldn't count.

Insomnia actually 92%. Surprised me. Interstellar and The Prestige are Nolan’s only ones in the 70s

The Prestige is definitely a surprise.

Saw this a couple days ago and 81% sounds about right. I would put it in that Interstellar/Inception range. Not as good as Memento/TDK/The Prestige but much more watchable than Dunkirk and less shitty than TDKR

I saw it in Germany. It’s pretty good. The lead does a great job carrying. Would like to see more work from him in the future.

Tenet is Inception + a Bond movie. Would recommend.

I've heard really bad things about the sound mix. Did either of you have issues with that?

Chris Stuckman brought that up in his review. I have no idea why it’s becoming so common to have music/background noises overpowering the dialogue in movies and tv shows

Seen it last night. I think I may have watched a great movie.I'm not honestly sure. Reminds me of the first time I watched Donnie Darko or Memento. I was confused from the get go. Didn't help the foreign language was subtitled in Finnish and Swedish. Will need to watch 3 or 4 times when it comes out on DVD to grasp what the hell happend. Action was great, the movie sound was incredible. Will watch again.

SATURDAY UPDATE: Now with four days of play under its belt during initial overseas rollout, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet could be looking at a Wednesday-Sunday opening of $40M+. Warner Bros continues to keep a tight lid on international box office numbers, but we have been able to glean insight from certain markets which pushes the start closer to where some bullish industry sources saw the picture heading before the debut last week.

In total this session, there are 40 offshore markets playing what has been the most highly anticipated film on the part of exhibition and audiences alike around the globe during the COVID-era reopening process (we are not including Canada which also launched this weekend as those figures will roll up into domestic).

Just saw it today. I’ll be honest I was lost the whole time. This was the first movie I very much noticed the sound mix overpowering the dialogue. It was pretty frustrating especially because Nolan’s plots are usually quite complex.

I felt like the writing was pretty sloppy and more messy than his movies usually are. I also felt like for the first half of the movie they couldn’t decide if they wanted the lead to be sort of a smooth James Bond can do or overcome anything type or if they wanted him to be a fly by the seat of his pants Beverly Hills Cop/Jack Sparrow Type. Some of the actions by characters seemed weird. Overall just messy in my opinion.

A lot of American critics have been tweeting today that it's a mess. I think that score is about to take a nosedive.
