Tenet review: Christopher Nolan's thriller is a palindromic dud

For all the technical achievements and Christopher Nolan's potentially captivating time-inversion concept, "Tenet" lacks the heart and soul to qualify as among the best movies in his illustrious filmography.

I've been struggling with how to cover a movie like TENET, a film trying to get people back in theaters in the U.S. during a pandemic when experts say it's the last thing we should do. And, morally, at all endorsing or normalizing something I wouldn't do.

How about just critique the actual movie? Its really simple

87% now but I don't expect it to hold that high of a percentage at the end of the day. It's average score is only 7.2/10. That should push it down into the 70s/lower-80s range unless the four critics who gave it a "rotten" score really hated it.

“Inception,”
purposely confusing us in the process, rather than just telling his story in coherent fashion.

What? Inception is pretty straight forward. He presents the concept of different levels and the associated dilation of time, and it's clear which characters are in each level at any point.

From the Hollywood Reporter's review -

quote:

There is no answer, Neil replies unhelpfully, because it’s a paradox. Or, as he circuitously declares later about another matter, “Whatever happened, happened.”Apologies for making everything about the state of American politics these days, but the latter phrase, repeated a couple of times in the film, by sheer accident evokes Donald Trump’s indifferent shrug at 170,000 Americans dying by coronavirus that “it is what it is" — a line Michelle Obama slyly re-purposed for her convention speech earlier this week.

Yeah, high likelihood that it bombs in the states. I think they're hoping for big numbers, internationally.

If he’s admitting that he’d review the movie differently if it was released in theatres than if it was straight to streaming then he should be fired immediately.

"007 meets the Minority Report"

I love the things they come up with for Nolan movies.

Resigned up for AMC Stubs. First month cost $5 and some change. Seeing Inception 10th Anniversary tonight with the special sneak peaks and I did find the Tenet page with advanced screenings but they arent on sale yet.
