This show was boring as hell. I stayed away from any info about it before and during. It just sucks. It's like who's who of a mystery show. Just making you guess who is which character for every episode. That's about all there is to it.

If you didn’t know he was Sauron after the first or second episode, you are a complete moron.

God this show is awful

I went in hoping it would be good but was cautious due to the trailers looking like crap. Episode 5 was so bad I gave up. With season 2 being a couple of years away, which is stupid, it could lose a lot of viewers from 1 to 2 unless the show dramatically improves

OK, what is this shite? Granted I’ve only seen this clip, but Halbrand is not Annatar even if he’s clearly Sauron which anyone with two brain cells to rub together could have figured that out: YouTube

No, the Three are forged shortly before the One, and the other rings are forged before those and under Sauron’s direct guidance. None of this happened in Tolkien’s mythos.

There's a lot to like and dislike about the show. Visually it's fantastic, I thought the acting was very good.

I think it suffers from 2 expected issues-
"it's not the way we expected"; and "here's something familiar from the movies".

This interpretation of Sauron is a big adjustment. I think we all expected someone filled with hate and malice... he isn't that. He's more the smartest guy in the room, and will simply not tolerate a deviation from his vision. Him meeting up with Galadriel= he was originally repentant, but she convinced him that he was right all along, and he's going to do his thing. And if you just shut up and listen, you will see, everything will be perfect...
and all these lesser beings, they are just tools to him.

I guess his goal is to be the benevolent god-king, where everything will be just perfectly blissful (and you better not step out of line).

Who were the three evil grey witch women seeking Sauron amongst the Harfoots?

The way they set it up, I'm not sure she had any choice if her goal was to get back to Middle Earth.

No, she could have gotten a ride from the Teliri if she wished. Swimming back 3,000 miles is fricking retarded.

Like the fact that Halbrand says he’s a better smith than anyone in Numenor… that’s a hell of a claim to make since the Numenorians were great smiths. It’s obvious he’s Sauron at that point given the only greater smiths than Sauron were Aulë and Fëanor. The writing is just fricking amateur.

No one we knew from books; but either evil maiar that are lesser to him, or human sorcerers that he'd groomed. Both fit the mythos...

Many of the Maiar turned to follow Morgoth, not just Sauron and the Balrogs. Those were just the ones named, and Sauron was the most prominent.
As for humans with magical powers- the Witch King was a mighty sorcerer, as described. Even if his powers were all just his ring, there are others. Remember, the White Council knew of the Necromancer, but thought him just a human, not Sauron returned (and interestingly enough, didn't move on him until they DID think he was Sauron).

Without getting hostile or combative about things:

like I said, there is a lot to like about this show, they are nailing some individual pieces. But I think the scope is a bit of an issue for those in charge. This is a good fantasy show, but they're struggling with some of the nuances.

My hope is this:
Look at Star Wars (OT), and Rogue One. Rogue One is a solid film, that doesn't capture the wonder and excitement of the original Star Wars. But the expansion of Rogue One (the Andor show) is a great addition, filling in the details around those 3 films.

I'm hoping Rings of Power, now that it's pushed through the initial threshold of "here we are in Middle Earth, and here's the characters and kingdoms we read about", will settle in like Andor has, and do a good job filling in the details of the wars to come.

This is not how I interpreted their Sauron after that episode. I am under the impression that everything he had done to that point was him manipulating Galadriel, Adar and the men of Numenor. Like a 12 year old trying to write a Littlefinger plot.

But if this is a shades of grey Sauron... even more

I was so confused with their only being 3 rings.

If anyone watched the youtube video with the "superfans" breaking down the show, they basically gave away who Sauron was. The gay black dude talked about Sauron by saying "I can fix him" like he was hot enough to get past being evil. Unless that dude is super into pock scarred elves or hairy wizards, that only left one person. I was surprised Amazon let that terrible video get produced for a number of reasons, but that accidental spoiler was a main one.

Questions for those who know more than I do...

Why did Sauron just retreat back to Mordor after being discovered by Galadriel? Why not just kill her and dispose of the body and go back up to the forge and finish the ring and then steal it?

What's the probability of Sauron reappearing next season as a distant Elf who's really into smithing smithing and tricks the elves into giving him a ring?

Where is Isildur? Is he still trapped in the barn or is he wandering Middle Earth and we just haven't seen him lately?

What exactly happened to the Island Kingdom last night? I didn't quite follow all of that? Did it have something to do with Isildur's sister with the huge knockers looking into the Palantir?
