Meryl Streep officially voicing Aslan in the Netflix Adaptation of Narnia.

I had help out hope they wouldn’t be this stupid. But they truly love being subversive more than they love money. There is no other explanation. “Hey we have this huge built in fan base for this property, why don’t we do the one thing that will make that fan base not even give it a chance.” I have no idea why these type decisions keep shocking me at this point.

Greta Gerwig on casting Meryl Streep as Aslan: “I wanted someone who was profound but not pretentious, who had gravitas but not morose self-seriousness. Someone who could communicate depth and pathos as well as joy and delight. I wanted someone who was older than 70, so there was a wisdom of experience, but who also had the capacity of fresh wonder, like a child. And also to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it. That list is not a long one.”

Great, we get the obligatory gender swap because the Force is Female or some shite. But they’re gonna frick up Classic Rock, too.

I am so glad I cancelled Netflix.

Except it's not made out of music, it's made out of sung words and roars.
Not guitars and drums. The whole point is that Narnia comes directly from Aslan's being and intention, a la God.
I know we'll never win this point, but just leave Christian imagery alone. You don't like it. You don't like Christians. Just be cool and leave it all alone.

Wasn't this announced a while back?

I will never understand why filmmakers choose to adapt source material they obviously hate into feature films/TV shows.

Correct. She can say what she wants but she started with "I want a woman."
I think Meryl as Aslan could work, but it indicates the type of decision making for the movie...and they're going to frick with things in a way I probably won't like.

It was dead the moment they attached gerwig’s name to it. You knew exactly what kind of adaptation you were going to get.

Just cast Liam Neeson again and if you don't want him because of his being Aslan in the movie then make Jeremy Irons say no.

I'd bet most of us in this thread were up in arms in the original thread announcing her

I mean, she was a self-professed fan... so I thought there was a glimmer of hope that she might surprise everyone and hold true... you know - as a fan.
But clearly she isn't.
