agree with most of that

the show's true down fall is how untalented its correspondents are now. They had some ridiculous talent under Stewart. Now it seems like a bunch of hacks that think its their personal mission to take on anything right, so its just low hanging fruit "hey let's go to a small town in Alabama and get their views on gay marriage HA HA HA dumb rednecks, see this is how all racist conservatives think!" and the audience roars with laughter and applause

Stewart is definitely liberal but at least he didn't fall into the "all on the left are the enlightened and all conservatives are uneducated racists" line of thinking

He’s been the only watchable host of that show. Trevor Noah was terrible.

he cared for veterans and 9/11 responders. I still believe folks are allowed to have different political opinions than me, and appreciate that he ACTUALLY put effort into making real change with his efforts for vets and responders. A lot of pundits talk, but he atleast did real work

I know it won't be popular here but he absolutely NAILED that opening segment. Both in the humor and in the seriousness

And I'm saying that as someone who will be voting for Trump for the 3rd time in November

I’d agree with that for the most part but he’s definitely trying to sway public opinion and always has been. When he gets called out or has legitimate push back, he hides behind “I’m just a comedian.”

I say this as a guy who has laughed at him for years and enjoyed his run. But pretending that he’s just making jokes and not a political pundit is kinda douchey.

ETA: to echo the above, there are plenty of things I agree with his “jokes” and efforts on. I’m a Republican and appreciate some of the satire and his efforts toward 9/11 first responders. But he’s still a baby back bitch when it comes to getting called out for bad takes.

He sort of goes back and forth as far as "punditry" goes and maybe I'm just in the weeds of semantics but the guy I responded to implied he does "news" which he certainly doesn't

Oliver was so good dude got his own show on HBO which is ironically way better than what the Daily Show has become. But with Stewart back I’m hoping it returns to form on some level

Like they fricking arent.

Its kinda amazing reading these forums and seeing just how trivial the stuff that offends the southern conservative, all while they tell ya how masculine and tough they are.

Jon is a huge lib that obviously skewered R's more than D's, but I always thought he was relatively fair (by very low standards), and he would rip D's very often. And he was actually funny.

I really wish we could get to a point that it’s not about being a lib or a repub but about the actual issues they care about.

Jon Stewart is passionate about getting lifelong healthcare for first responders. Particularly those first responders that were there on 9/11. He’s sat before congress pleading their case multiple times.

I agree. I accidentally caught the opening while flipping through channels. Never watched the daily show before.

His rant about the age of the two options was spot on how I feel. What the frick are we doing? 77 v. 81. I just watched my parents go from relatively decent functioning to completely inept when they went from 77 to 81. That shite comes in fast.

Both sides say their guy is sharp and the other guy is a POS. K. Stop saying they are sharp and video it for proof. And if the other guy is so bad, shouldn’t we be really careful and try to find a really good person to make sure the other sides POS doesn’t win?

I guess I’m as disgruntled with these options as anyone else who doesn’t view this like cheering for my side like a football team.

You can’t be 70 and run for Bunkie city judge, but 77 or 81 is cool for president?

Yes this is why he’s a hack. He’ll attack and jab but when he gets push back he pussies out with this. It’s a weasel thing to do.

Jon Stewart is the sort of braindead moron who walks into a room, jumps up on a table, takes a shite, then spends the next two hours complaining about the smell and crying for someone to clean up the mess.

I don’t know. I caught a few minutes last night. I never watch TDS outside of a few minutes here and there and didn’t even realize he was back on air yet, but I thought he was fine. At the very least he’s pretty funny, which is a huge step up from what they’ve had the last however many years or so.

And in the few minutes I saw he was doing a decent job bashing both sides. I’m pro Trump by default I guess, but I don’t care if people make fun of him. Just don’t pretend like he’s an idiot and Biden is great. And he didn’t last night. In fact he hit pretty hard on the fact that he’s losing his mind and isn’t fit for office, made fun of him for being on TikTok, and did the “can we video him being sharp and focused?” chocolate chip cookie bit.

I still won’t watch the show regularly but at least now if it’s on my tv I won’t break my neck trying to find the remote to change the channel like I did when Noah was on. Even if I don’t agree with Stewart’s politics, he makes the show a lot more palatable for me.
