I keep seeing this said but can't tell from the trailer. I know the casing for Helen has upset some but the great hero Achilles being a Trans may sink this movie if that's true.

I keep seeing Ellen Page as Achilles and that black chick as Helen. Not sure what to believe though.

Would make more sense if she played the ghost spirit of his heel.

Why cast her at all? No matter what role she is trying to play, 90% of the audience will be thinking "isn't that the crazy chick who cut off her tits?"

i don't recall Nolan succumbing to the woke movement, yet. don't know why he'd start now.

but it's also Hollywood so who knows.

Well, she was in Inception, so they have a work history. It would be pretty damn stupid to cast he/she/it as Achilles, though. He's made some great movies over the years but this one has disaster written all over it.

The best guess I’ve seen is Page is playing Elpenor, a member of Odysseus’ crew that dies during the journey and they meet again in the Underworld.

There’s a pic from a dinner with only the actors on Odysseus’ crew that seems to support it.

The most entertaining part of this Achilles and Helen controversy is everyone pretending Troy wasn’t a complete bastardization of the Iliad just because the actors looked the part. If this was a Troy sequel, Helen wouldn’t even be in it since they let her escape with Paris instead of going back to Sparta with Menelaus.

The following names are on IMDB without who they are playing listed:

Lupita Nyong'o
Elliot Page
Logan Marshall-Green
Ryan Hurst
James Remar
Samantha Morton
Josh Stewart

Lupita Nyong'o is best known as Nakia from Black Panther

In the actual Odyssey, Achilles is encountered in the underworld as a ghostly figure (serving as a cautionary tale against seeking glory and a short life). Helen is a minor figure, mentioned only in books 5 and 13.

Neither show up in the trailers, so I imagine their roles are as limited in the movie as they are in the epic. I'm curious just much they'll condense things anyway to make as much as possible fit, as as a "novel" the Odyssey is at least 500 pages long depending on translation. That means a lot either gets cut or is shortened.

The best I can tell, a lot of these rumors were probably just made up by random people with no insider information at all.

I would imagine nobody on tigerdroppings has inside info on who she is playing.

I do believe Lupita is playing Helen. I'm not buying Page as Achilles

I just finished The Illiad and it ends with Achilles returning Hector’s body to his father. They haven’t even made it inside the walls yet so he’s still very much alive. At least in the translation I read. I haven’t started The Odyssey yet but I’m assuming it starts with the Trojan Horse and Achilles’ death

The best I can tell, the Lupita rumors as Helen started on Reddit just because she is sitting next to Bernthal in the first teaser, who is playing Menelaus, Helen's husband

That is it

Doesn’t matter whether or not she’s playing Achilles. The fact that she’s even starring in the movie is laughable and an absolute abomination.

It doesn’t. The story of the fall is relayed in a flashback/song by a poet sung in front of Odysseus but no one knows who he is.

Page and Nyongo have to play someone, and I doubt either has a minor role.
