Corlys’ ‘father’ should be asking some tough questions.

Thought it was a good start.

Can’t believe so many in this thread missed the baby dying, it was confusing for the 20 seconds until they showed the body, the princess called out the king at the funeral, and had an entire scene at the small council.

I’m ready to see some badass fighters like Hound, Mountain, Red Viper, etc., the “badass” so far lost to some no name knight.

Only other minor gripe was around the c-section. Watching with my wife, I just don’t see you how to do that to someone you love.

It should’ve been “Hi wife, you are going to die and likely the baby too. I’m sorry and I love you, we need to save the baby. This will be quick and painless for you, goodbye”. Quick death followed by gutting.

Instead they tortured the poor lady and I was so confused why. I even rewound to make sure it was not one or the other; the whole reaction of the queen would not have been like that if she was apologizing for no heir in the previous scene, and knew she was dead anyway….the whole scene gave the impression the king was killing the wife for the baby, not that he was trying to save the only one that had a chance.

I predict this will be what causes conflict for the king and people will turn on him.

I actually thought (maybe still think) that the baby was murdered while the king’s attention was to the dead queen. The baby was alive and crying and they announced it to be a boy, then it looked like the guy holding it put his hands near the baby’s face as the king was looking away. I thought maybe the guy holding it smothered the baby or killed him somehow. I might have to watch that scene again…

I’m starting to wonder if that’s when everyone got up to go get a drink or something. Aside from right when the child was handed to the Maester and made a weird gurgle sound I thought it was obvious.

Completely forgot this came out Sunday so watched last night

Overall enjoyed it. Started pretty slow but picked the pace towards the end. Some of the acting and dialogue was rough.

No characters "popped" like Jamie or Tyrion immediately like in GoT. Daemon was the only really intriguing character. The Hand seems to have promise as well.

I wonder how much "magic" will be in this series. Doesn't appear at the moment for much stories involving the CotF, or warging, or whitewalkers, etc.

It did feel nice to have some new GoT content though. Been in a lull TV wise for a bit.

It seemed to be a cheaper knock off, which it is. I do think it's limited scope/setting contributed to that, so assuming it expands pretty significantly to other areas, storylines and characters I think it should improve even if the acting/CGI/etc. is never quite as good.

I’m hopeful that since they know there will be a ton of dragon on dragon violence, there wasn’t any need to blow their CGI budget on these initial dragon introduction scenes.

I thought the choice was either they both die, or possibly the baby lives. I took it as the wife was going to die regardless of the choice. Her reaction was simply that she didn’t want to die, she wasn’t aware she was dead no matter what.

I didn't take it as him wanting to kill his wife for the baby. He was broken when the maester told him his options, which were horrible eaither way he went. He was there by her side trying to comfort her to some degree, just by apologizing. A person that didn't care would have just said ok do what has to be done and then walked out or didn't stay by her side.

His wife died in childbirth and there's nothing he could have done. In medieval times childbirth was always a risk and women died all the time, so it's not like it's a big shock for something like that to happen. The conflict is already started because he lost his heir. Had the baby lived, it would have calmed the storm, but now multiple people feel they have a claim so the conflict is over that.

I missed it worse than anybody else so far. I was actually wondering why they were lying about the baby having died.

Criston Cole isn't really a no name knight. I don't know if he has a big role in this season, but he will eventually.

I rewatched it last night since the wife hadn’t seen it yet.

During the scene where they announced the princess as the heir, she asked “what happened to the baby?”

As obvious as it seemed to some, it must have been easy to miss.

I thought I heard a choking sound when the maester was holding him for half a second before they cut to a different scene. Wasn’t sure until it cut to the funeral.

awesome read! i'll have to refer back to that as time goes on.

i got into GOT late so , i just binged the entire series. how often do the drop new episodes?

also, Daemon doesn't have any children listed. i'm guessing from what we saw in the episode 1 he's actually gay?

Every Sunday just like GOT used too. Daemon is not gay he took his whore with him on the dragon and left his wife in Kings landing. Power Move plus no child support to pay. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Pretty sure the princess will be gay as her and the Hightower girl seemed a little close. That will be a scene I wouldn’t mind watching. Will throw a wrench into her line of succession though.
