Love this book. Listened to the audio book for free and enjoyed it so much I bought the hard cover to support the author. I am a sucker for time loop stories though.

I really enjoyed The Gameshouse by the same author too.

She dropped it on purpose. The opening scene of the movie foreshadows this.

Opening scene: Her two grandkids are playing basketball outside. She calls the older one over and tells him that since he is bigger, he has to let the younger, smaller brother have turns to shoot. Then she calls the younger grandson over and tells him to "kill him" (or something like that) even though she already told the older one to let him have his chances. So, she is telling the younger sibling to try as hard as he can to compete while telling the older sibling that he is still gonna need to give the younger one chances.

Fast forward to the end of the movie. The younger sibling needs to try as hard as she can to compete (hence telling the pitcher what to throw to get her out) but then ultimately the older sibling still sometimes needs to let the younger one score.
Most saying amazing world. Amazing combat. Best looking world ever.

But horrible menus (one said the worst inventory system in the history of gaming). And sometimes unclear objectives that can have you wasting hours at a time.

And apparently you have to grind supplies/equipment for hours before most boss battles as the bosses are on an entirely different difficulty level than everything else in the game up to that point. And not a souls like difficulty where you can adjust your strategy to have more success & figure it out. But strictly difficult because all your armour & weapons will be greatly underpowered even though you can one-shot hordes of enemies right before the boss fight. And this happens over & over throughout the game adding a ridiculous # of hours by mandatory backtracking to grind & farm for bosses.

I got a ticket for underage drinking in PCB spring bank circa 1999. It wasn't pick up trash AND pay a fine. It was either/or. They'll void the ticket if you picked trash. Since I was a broke college kid who couldn't afford the ticket, I picked up trash. Pretty sure you didn't have to pay that if you picked up trash.

Just finished book 5 and damn he likes to drop bombs in the epilogue

I thought books 3 & 4 were solid but weren't as good as the start of the series, so I was a little worried the series had hit its heights too early. But books 5-7 were all bangers. 5 is probably still my favorite so far, but 6 & 7 are both right up there with it.

The trains and shite was so confusing and I basically glazed over a bunch of that

Easily the weakest book in the series, imo. I still enjoyed it overall, but I didn't care for the train system as a level.

Hes still a fricking killer.

Joshua should easily knock him out. Shouldn't be a contest.

But let's not pretend like it takes some amazing strength to knock Joshua on his arse either. He has a glass jaw and his favorite defense when he decides to mix it up is blocking punches with his chin. I'd say Paul has a non zero percent chance to get extremely lucky and wobble Joshua at some point in the fight if it goes more than a round or two. That goes for anyone who fights Joshua.
I loved dessert strike as a kid. I had a giant sketch pad that I’d map out every level in.

In 2021, I bought a 3080 Lenovo legion 7i. i can still play pretty much anything that I want with mods added in. I cannot run ultra setting on most new games from within the past year. But, with medium-high setting and with Reshade to make the graphics pop, I can still hit 50-60 fps on pretty much any new demanding games. If it isn't a demanding game, I can still hit triple digits with high-ultra settings.

I am missing out on a lot of the DLSS & Ray tracing improvements that started coming out with the 4 Series cards, so if you suffer FOMO that is something you'll have to consider as cards/tech get better.

I do not play multiplayer first person shooters, so can't discuss those. I am strictly single player FWIW. Sports games are always easy to run:
WWE 2k25 maxed settings with a Reshade - 60 FPS (game limits at 60 FPS max)

NBA 2k26 max settings with Reshade - 65+ FPS

F1 25 high-ultra mix settings with Reshade and Lossless Scaling Frame Gen - 70-75 FPS

Others:

Final Fantasy XVI: Med-high mix with Reshade - 50 FPS during the crazy cut scenes. 70+ in less demanding scenes.

Final Fantasy remakes - 70+ Fps on high setting with Reshade

I was hitting 65+ FPS on Cyberpunk with Reshade and 30+ mods added on.

Alan Wake 2 (very demanding): 45-50 FPS on medium setting and Reshade.

Claire Obscur: I believe I was at a high-ultra mix with Reshade and getting 65-75 fps.

No issues with ports: Ghost of Tushima, God of War, Horizon.

I had about 3 years of being able to ultra most games with mods and reshades added in. Now I'm mixing setting between medium-ultra. I'll probably start looking to upgrade when the 6-Series laptops come out.

Edit: wanted to specify that I run reshade on everything and mods on everything if there are mods worth a damn for the game. Those can often lower FPS. So those FPS numbers above include both Reshade and in some cases mods.

One character is kinda expected to be your damage dealer. It's pretty obvious who that is when you have the full team. But pretty much everyone else is wide open on how you want to use them - damage or support.

And since every character gets a ton of weapon choices each with different buffs and everyone can be respec'd from scratch fairly often, you aren't locked in to specific builds. You can trial & error until you determine what works best for you.

I had one character who dealt nuclear damage to one enemy from the start of each fight, one who could deal above average damage to multiple enemies but needed a couple of turns for their weapon to meet the correct damage dealing criteria, and then my third character was strictly support to set up the other two.
He thought his cruise ship was leaving him, so he ran after it like a jackass. That wasn't his cruise. The correct boat was the one still at the dock. The end of the gif is someone telling him thats not his boat and then pointing him to the correct one (that he conveniently ran right past to chase down the wrong one).

I'll try again at some point but I found the first book starts out painfully boring (it might be the audiobook - wasnt a fan of the narrators monotone). I put it away earlier this week to start the First Law Trilogy.

Love Sewer Shark. I still play it from time to time. I am a sucker for those old Sega CD FMV games like SS, Ground Zero Texas, Tomcat Alley, etc...
What year was Waterworld? I thought that was considered the biggest flop ever at the time of its release?

Just got out. It was a decent popcorn flick, but damn you have to suspend all disbelief at the racing scenes. It isn't sharks in the colosseum bad, but it is eye rolling bad if you want anything that resembles real racing or for anything F1 related.

If you had linked this to round 10 of their first fight, you'd be on to something. Great round! But mentioning it with a pic of Fan Man ruined it. That round was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Morales vs Barrera had numerous rounds that would be in the run for top 10 best round status.

I just bought the Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS and the Z1E chip earlier today. It comes in on Thursday. Pretty pumped.

Too often I'm sitting on the sofa next to Mrs TTown playing Slay the Spire or Balatro on my tablet while she watches something on the tv that I'm not too invested in. I very recently started looking at handhelds to pass that time.

I'm interested, but doubt I'm holding off till the holidays for this. Probably just grab a Steam Deck instead of waiting.
