I’ve had two careers…one in hotels and one in construction. Not exactly hotel staff but the reality show about the cruise ship employees is a fairly accurate representation of young people in the hospitality business

Have been a HS teacher/Coach and a lawyer.

Lawyer- Above comment totally correct.

Coach- Friday Night Lights (Tv version) comes closest

Teacher- NONE "Teacher" with Nick Nolte comes close with the administrators who only care about looking like they are educating, but kissing the parent's asses and screwing over the teachers.

No show set in HS is the least bit accurate.

For my previous profession, Top Gun was pretty accurate.

I've found that media portrayal of software engineers has been in 3 sorta kinda categories, that often overlap.

- Hyper super hero programmers who can hack into any system, break any encryption, immediately write scripts/programs targeting any hardware platform or operating system - literally even inhuman alien ones.

- Recluses who can speak techno babble, but don't seem to actually know anything coding, engineering, or software development principles.

- Einsteinian corporate Napoleans who are somehow just plain smarter than everybody else around them and able make to make billions as easy as normal people focus and take deep breaths.

I don't mind these portrayals as some of them are quite entertaining. All that said, there have been some films that depicted software types as they actually are somewhat realistic settings and have been rather notable in quality and watchability.

Pretty accurate.

Movies that had factory workers did for the first half of my working life but from what I remember they were a little hit and miss on accuracy.

There's a backdraft thread from yesterday where I mentioned it's a must-watch in the fire service, but it's also highly inaccurate. All of the TV dramas are absolute BS. If they accurately portrayed daily shifts as a firefighter, it would be 90% medical calls and MVAs where we're just directing traffic or cleaning up the mess. Random stations even in big cities don't have butt puckering calls every shift.

Ladder 49 is decent. Rescue Me is a good show for how brutally we'll talk to each other. Tacoma FD is more accurate than you'd like to think for the guys you pay taxes to protect you and your family

Only the Brave is an incredible true story with a few liberties in the storytelling. I've done a case study on the Yarnell fire for wildland firefighting course work. The movie doesn't show some of the things that contributed to what happened, but there are numerous scenes where not only the dialogue but even the tone, inflection, the cracking of a voice over the radio.... They nailed that. Some of the radio traffic is public and you can find it on YT. The scene where they're jamming out on the way to a fire is We had a fire entering a high-end neighborhood that was around 1,000 acres at the time. We were just like that en route to that one. Wildland-Urban interface is frickin go time.

Emergency medicine isn't much different. Scrubs is fantastic for showing the levity it takes to stay sane. The Pitt is fantastic for showing how most staffs are juggling multiple patients with varying circumstances and still dealing with your personal shite.
