Years ago, in my younger days, I worked for a while in Parks and Recreation. So yeah...pretty popular show about it ha.
People woudl ask all the time "hey is yoru job like the show!?" No, absolutely positively nothing remotely similar. My job was basically like any other office job like selling insurance or working at a bank or somethign. I had an office and and a computer/desk/phone and I sat there for 8 hours on the computer then went home. It wasn't a wacky and zany type of environment like the show at all.

In the movies, its all big models and rollout hard copy drawings (plans). And they're always trying to sell the "design" to a client.
In reality, its all computers, conference calls, and emails. And rarely do you ever compete for the project. They come to you, you design it.

Teacher here, so more shows and movies than I could list. Most are grossly inaccurate for any number of reasons. I've never taught in an inner city school, but I'd say season 4 of The Wire when Prez becomes a teacher is pretty accurate. Lots of frustrated, burned out people navigating a broken system that only cares about test scores and keeping the higher ups off their back.
Most overly inspirational films are pretty much fiction. With that being said, I do like being a teacher but it's like any other profession in many respects.

I was in politics/ government for 30 plus years
there's been a lot of shows about it the show that came the closest to getting it right was Veep

I started my career as an actuary. There’s an early scene in “About Schmidt” where you can see a book on his shelf that I actually have on my shelf
I work in investment research now.
I’ve never worked for an Investment bank, but the douchiness of the bankers rings in The Big Short rings true
I’ve met mortgage lenders that had the same cocky attitude and cluelessness as those in the movie too.
I’ve briefly met Michael Burry a few times. He really is eccentric.
Fun fact, Michael Lewis who wrote the book graduated from Newman.
Some friends I know who’ve worked for Goldman et. al. say some of the vibe in Industry is familiar

The accuracy question is skewed because generations imitate popular movies. Young traders / Wall Street types in the late 1980s imitated the movie Wall Street, and then Boiler Room, all the way to Billions and beyond, and so the movies and professions feedback loop each other.
Same can be said for physician behavior following decades of those shows and trial lawyer behavior following decades of those shows and movies. Before those shows, doctors and lawyers imitated their mentors. Now they imitate Clooney, Cruise, Denzel, the newbies, etc.
