re: Have there ever been a movie or TV show that was set in your profession?

Actively avoid movies about my profession because they get so much wrong about how things really work.

I do like how they portray some of the in office stuff and interactions there.

Every single profession’s answers are “Yes” and “No” respectively.

Office Space - portrayed it perfectly.

Boogie Nights was pretty accurate.





But Office Space is going to be the answer for anyone who was stuck in a boring office job in their 20's or 30's in the decade or so after that movie came out.

I didn't have to write TPS reports, but I did leave one job after I found myself having to give verbal reports to like 5 different people up the top of the org chart because none of them were on speaking terms with each other.

I'm guessing.

I would say that Urban Cowboy did a decent job of depicting day to day plant working life of an insulation guy. The night shifts, the scaffolds, double shifts, etc.

Also the young punks going out after work and getting hammered and showing up still drunk at work the next day.

ETA: “The only reason you’re getting this job is because of your Uncle Bob.”

ETA2: I haven’t set foot in a plant in 35+ years, so that movie was less than ten years old when I was working in them. It was the gold standard. I knew many “BUD’s”. One was even a legit bull rider.

Plenty.

The Bear has gotten the closest.
