Celebrity voices started earlier than that. Oliver and Company was all celebrity. I loved it as a kid, but it doesn't hold up. The beginning is very sad. Great songs too.

Never mentioned.
I think rescuers had celeb voices too.
The Renaissance was four movies worked on around the same period.
Mermaid -> Beauty -> Aladdin-> Lion King.
Each was the "greatest ever when released". I remember seeing each in theaters. I remember the hype.
Being eight when mermaid came out, I didn't know disney was in decline.
I liked all the 80's disney.
To me the decline started after lion king. Though that was also the time when I was no longer interested in disney cartoons.
I think nostalgia makes the late 90s and 00s movies seem better.

Beauty and the Beast, Tale as old as Time

That's the same song. It's great though.
quote:

Gaston, Be Our Guest.

Also great.
quote:

Belle

Not great, but solid.

not a single bad one in the bunch and I'll put any one of them up against everything in LK.

Circle of Life
Can You Feel the Love Tonight (may be the best IMO)
Be Prepared
Hakuna Matata

All great IMO. I Just Can't Wait to be King is the only one I'd say isn't great, but it's still solid IMO.

I'm not saying LK is "better," but I certainly think it's arguable that the songs hold up to BatB pretty easily.

The King and the Land are one. It shows up all over in folklore. That's why it rains as soon as Simba regains the throne, the land starts making itself into Simba's image.

People from the days the folklore was created were ignorant of science. Scar got screwed by a drought. It would have happened no matter what.

That is why, when the opportunity strikes and Maurice is being taken off to the asylum

That opportunity didn't just happen to strike. There is a scene where he literally meets with and pays the head of the asylum to take Maurice and expressly lays out his plan to get Belle to marry him to release Maurice.

And I know it gets played out sometimes, but the whole Stockholm angle of the movie just doesn't sit too well with me.

It's not Stockholm syndrome because she leaves at point and then freely decides to go back. She could've left the Beast to die after the wolf attack and gone home.

Instead she realizes waiting for some prince charming isn't going to happen. And he realizes having a furious temper and being a piece of shite isn't a way to find love. It's a theme about how man and woman learn from each other and grow together.

I doubt many dads watch the movie and think about how they never want a daughter like Ariel bc of her actions. Or even think about it all

Do you have a daughter?

Angela Lansbury did not want to sing the song and recorded it in one take.

with over 115,000,000 votes cast, in a surprising turn of events, robin hood was written in by numerous voters and edges out both tlk & batb.

thanks for playing
