I honestly think the prequels would be seen as better if they were filmed today.

CGI was still rather new in 2000. The actors weren’t trained to perform in front of blue screens as much as they are today.

The special effects would not come off as cartoonish either

Portman wasn't "awful" but the lines she was given? Yeesh

You mean green screens? And yes Natalie Portman specifically said she struggled with the special effects aspect.

Daniel Day Lewis would've looked awful with that script

That monotone shite was Lucas's idea in post-production. If you watch some of the original trailers and TV spots, it features footage of Natalie Portman spitting her lines as Queen Amidala in her regular voice, pre-ADR work.

ETA: I'm pretty sure they used Keira Knightley for the ADR work. She played Padme's decoy in the Phantom Menace so the monotone voice was actually hers, not Natalie Portman's.

They would still be reading Lucas' shitty dialogue. I tried to watch every one of the prequels and gave up less than an hour into each one of them. Those films would suck at any point in time.

Blue screens are a thing. Depends on what the directors want in terms of the pros and cons of green vs blue screen when filming.

Like one simple example is you wouldn’t use a green screen to film a green character.

Blue Screens require less light. I have no idea which color Lucas used. Fincher uses blue screens for that darker look in most of his movies.

It’s hard to act when the dialogue is utter crap.

The overall story of the prequels was just fine. But the heavy use of cgi and the poor dialogue makes them very meh.... still better than the new trilogy.

I always see people say this, and it’s bullshite. She was awful in the prequels, no question. And it wasn’t solely due to the dialogue. Yes it was bad, but good lord so was she.

Honestly I don’t blame any of the actors for the prequels. fricking Peter O’Toole couldn’t have made them work.

I didn't know blue screens were a thing. They used green screens for the prequels.

Yeah but the lord of the rings came out at the same time and used just as much cgi...

Everyone talks about the scripts being bad - Liam Neeson made them work. So did McGregor.

I think Hayden Christensen gets shite on because he was the lead and he wasn’t an established actor, but a lot of really talented actors in the prequels had super wooden performances with horrible dialogue. Blame Lucas for that

Wouldn’t do shite for the writing and directing, which are the real problems

Lucas clearly can't direct. The human characters weren't of any real importance to him, and this is what we got.

" I'll try spinning! That's a good trick! "

" Now THAT'S pod racing ! "
