SPOILERS STARTING ON PAGE 3

The “Lawrence of Arabia” of sci-fi according to some critics

The French premiere was yesterday and although the social media embargo doesn’t end until Thursday, several reactions have been posted. I’m not going to pretend to know the qualifications of these people with the exception of one, but I don’t doubt the authenticity of their reactions.
quote:

“I wish all future science fiction films the best of luck for the next decade, as this one sets the bar so high. Truly exceptional." (@Siphano)

quote:

Bigger, more epic, more intimate... Denis Villeneuve delivers a second opus that elevates the DUNE saga to the ranks of the greatest modern sci-fi blockbusters." (@DailyPop)

quote:

"I wasn’t a big fan of the first ‘Dune’, but ‘Part 2’ was something else. I was blown away by the film's epic and grandiose." (@Les_Bonhommes)

quote:

"I don't know what to say after this big slap in the face, but long live cinema, long live Denis Villeneueve, and long live the perfection that is this film." (@Kellie0210)

quote:

"The “perfect film” exists, and it's called “Dune Part 2”. Denis Villeneuve thank you for existing, you are the King." (@M0ithis)

quote:

"For me, I don't think it says too much to say that if Dune: Part One was Star Wars, this to me is very much The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite of the Star Wars films. I just think it's an incredibly exciting expansion of all of the things you introduce in the first one." - Christopher Nolan

Good to hear but not much of a surprise. We already ate the first half of the pie so we know the second half is going to taste good.

If all goes well, this will be a trilogy. Part 1 and Part 2 will complete the first book. It’s all but confirmed that he will make a third film for the sequel book, Dune Messiah, that will finish the story he wants to tell. Whether Messiah is his next movie or not is still to be determined.

There are a lot of Dune books. It is shocking to have a good movie made and realize it could become a franchise

Read it as a teenager and hated it. As an adult read it again and loved it go figure. It helped a lot understanding the David Lynch version which is how I was introduced to the world

One day I’m actually going to see the first one from start to finish. I always seem to find it on when the kid is dealing with the old lady and the pain box then get tied up in other things right after they save the crew from the big worm from Tremors. I like what I’ve seen, but just haven’t found the time.

Didn't really care for the original Dune movie with Sting. Watched the New remake and really enjoyed it. Looks like part 2 will be good as well can't wait to see it on the big screen.

I saw that version too.

As much as I like this new version, and it looks spectacular, I still find that "knowing" the old movie helps things out. That old version had a lot of exposition, which has helped me follow along with the new one. I can't shake the feeling that if I came in cold, I wouldn't know much of what is going on.
I imagine reading the books would help, too.

This is a common criticism of Part 1. He really didn’t spend any time with exposition and hoped you would piece it together. I’ve read the first few books and seen the Lynch version, so I was glad we didn’t spend a lot of time with explaining things. But personally I would have cut one Zendaya fever dream in favor of some background on the Mentats Thufir and Piter, the human computers.

Pretty much the same for me on that Lynch film.

Now having read the source material for a lot of this new Star Wars content, I appreciate the new SW stuff less.

I made it through the first three books I think. That's when the son picked it up and it wasn't quite the same......

I hate getting hyped about movies, but I truly can't wait for this one.

Nope, 1 through 6 (Chapterhouse: Dune),were the old man, then the son found a bunch of stuff and partnered up with a guy who's name is escaping me at the moment. I've read all six several times, favorite books ever.

Got my tickets for the opening Friday. So pumped.

I'm surprised that one poster isn't already in here telling everyone how dumb they are for liking these movies. That the movie isn't a finished story and DV is ruining movies by taking two movies to finish a story.

They did an official IMAX re-release a couple weeks ago. I just checked my area and several theaters are still showing it on standard screens for one or two showings a day.
