At the end when Paul ordered the Freemen to attack the other Houses' ships in orbit...were they boarding/using Shaddam's ships to do this attack?

Looked like it. All the Harkonen ships appeared to be torched so it’d have to be the Sardaukar transports

Loved the film... one thing that did seem off .....did anyone else feel disappointed by Walken's...I don't want to say performance.... I guess his screen presence...it wasn't threatening or have any gravity to it imo. Which is usually quite the opposite.

It was really good!!
Brolin, Bardem and Lady Jessica are my favorite.
I thought Walken was an odd cast.

There were some editing and sound nitpicks but the movie was great. A little too long in the beginning and rushed at the end and the score was slightly different, it lacked the Arrakeen theme which is the best of the two movies imo but I loved it.

Some quotes from an EW interview
quote:

"When you adapt, there's always some kind of violence toward the original material," Villeneuve tells Entertainment Weekly. "You have to change things, you have to bend, you have to make painful choices."
quote:

”One of the most painful choices for me on this one was Thufir Hawat," Villeneuve admits. "He's a character I absolutely love, but I decided right at the beginning that I was making a Bene Gesserit adaptation. That meant that Mentats are not as present as they should be, but it's the nature of the adaptation."

He said he has “four projects on the table” for his next movie: Messiah, Rendezvous with Rama, Cleopatra, or an untitled 4th project
quote:

One of them is a secret project that I cannot talk about right now, but that needs to see the light of day quite quickly.

Just got out, incredible.

Javier Bardem was particularly awesome in this.

The scene when the camera goes side by side of Paul first riding the worm was sick.

It was really good but not quite as good as the critics are making it out to be. I think 1 was better. I know it's not possible, but the first book should have been a trilogy. There was a lot rushed at the end of this one and the pacing suffered.

This was 100% a technical masterpiece and moviemaking at its finest. I haven't been to the theaters since 2022 and I haven't been to a legit movie in theaters since before Covid, but I'm incredibly happy that I saw this in XD for the sound alone. The sound mixing in this movie is incredible, and the scene where Paul rides the worm was INSANE.

The set design, costumes, production, CGI, etc. were apex-level cinema.

The issue was the story, and the pacing issues that occurred. The first one did have this too. I remember we were all hoping those comments about the extra footage would lead to a director's cut getting shut down by DV. I imagine there isn't that much excess here, b/c of the choices he made to avoid a 5-hour movie.

However, I really do wish they would have spent more time off world and given the emperor and that level of politics at least another 10 minutes. The parts with the major politics mixed around Giedi Prime, is probably the best part of the movie. We needed more of that to set up the final confrontation. Other than just pacing, the ending was EXTREMELY rushed.

One scene in particular I was REALLY hoping to see DV get to do was this one. That scene with a proper budget and director can be apex stuff. This isn't a criticism more of a personal wish. I understand that they had to make sacrifices and having DV with a budget do a 75% off version is better than nothing. Otherwise, that clip shows the OTHER sacrifices you have to make (which are worse. Nobody wanted more scify-level Dune attempts).

Too bad Bezos didn't spend the billion on a Dune series.

Also, I agree about Zendaya. I'm over her same character that she plays in every role. Felt that way after the first Spiderman.

Somewhere between an 8.0 and 8.5 / 10. I think it's like the Dark Knight where the extremely cinematic nature of the movie is going to lead to an early onslaught over over-praise, but it will settle back down in time. I imagine this board has aged since TDK and won't jump me now like they did the night of TDK premier

I can understand the disdain for Zendaya playing Zendaya in everything she’s in. But I stand by thinking the characterization of Chani in the context of this story actually makes sense and is even an improvement on the source material. I’m not going to stan for her winning any awards for the performance but I think she does fit this particular role for what DV is trying to convey.

Like TDK, I think this was a really good second film in a trilogy. Its legacy will be partly determined if DV can stick the landing in Part 3; I think TDK suffers in some ways because TDKR missed the mark. A good second has to be the glue between a novel first film and a satisfying third.

Well the primary problem with TDK were that it crammed in too many plots and didn't fully realize them all (yet it came to a conclusion on them all). Saying that now isn't controversial, but after a midnight showing on premier night? Yeah, I got some classic "SFP IS TROLLING US" melts

We're all old men now, for the most part, so people are more calm with criticism.

I"m just over Zendaya. Chani was a little annoying as a character, but I get where they're going with it. There's major external an internal conflicts going on and it's a story about colonization at its heart. Creating the personal animosity and the love triangle fits with the drama (especially how DV sees Paul, who's losing his humanity in exchange for pragmatic acquisition of power).

Stunning scene, the best part of the movie.

It felt like you were right there on the worm.
