I disagree, and I’ll raise you this:

Fellowship was 90% pointless. It was a three hour hike.

It was so fricking boring, I didn’t bother with the other two, until years after they were released. I actually regret this.

No. LOTR is far superior, and it’s not even close really.

The original Star Wars movies are better than The Lord of the rings and I loved the The Lord of the rings trilogy.

Yes.

Star Wars OT still holds up, though it drags heavily on Dagobah.

Fellowship is the only LOTR movie I ever feel like sitting down to watch. I only barely liked Two Towers and ROTK in the first place.

Fellowship came out when I was in middle school so to me it's not even close. I like SW but the original was before my time and the prequels just didn't do it for me. I rewatch the LOTR trilogy at least once a year and it never gets old.

Now, the hobbit? I've seen that trilogy once and never felt the need to watch them again.

Jackson got all the scenes in the Hobbit he needed to get right and just halfassed the other scenes due to a tight production schedule.

The Hobbit movies were incredibly bloated but I can understand why. PJ was under an immense amount of pressure to support the New Zealand film industry. Its not a large country and the films bring in a buttload of money. (fun fact of the day, buttload is actually a real unit of measurement)

With things in danger of collapse with Del Toro backing out Jackson did the best he could.

Star Wars has been plagued by Kathleen Kennedy being a very poor studio head.

I've watched the star wars movies multiple times.
One only seen return of the king more than once. I prefer star wars though I may try and rewatch lotr it's been a while.

They hold up really well. ROTK was my least favorite of them all. It seems like that's the one they let CGI run the show. I think they could've done the whole ghost army attack wave better but that's my only real gripe.

I think the Empire Strikes Back is a better movie than any one of the LOTR movies but I agree, the LOTR trilogy is superior to the Star Wars trilogy overall.

I think one of the Red Letter Media people made the point that Star Wars have been living off fumes from Empire and damn it’s true. Every movie after that was at best disappointing and at worst a complete mess

I love both. I actually like every SW movie I’ve seen. All of them. Some are much better than others obviously, but they are pretty much all enjoyable for me. And great movies to just have on in the background.

LotR trilogy is my #1 “movie” of all time. It’s that good. So I put LotR over SW but think both are pretty fricking awesome in their own right. SW also has the nostalgia factor working for it too.

I remember sitting in the theater when the end of the film came, and someone shouted "that's it?!?"

I was flabbergasted that people hadn't heard or known that it was a trilogy at that point.

Star Wars, up to this point, has had way more of a cultural impact.

Not sure if that directly makes it better, but it makes it more important.

I'd rather watch the LotR trilogy over the original SW trilogy all day, every day.

Well when you add the books in there, I’m not really sure about that.

Go back and watch the original Star Wars with fresh eyes, if that's possible. The dialogue and acting is pretty bad. Enjoyable movie, but it's fairly corny. I don't know if anything in modern pop culture is as overrated as Star Wars. Michael Jackson, maybe.
Lord of the Rings was consistently great throughout.
