I’m fine with an openly gay actor playing James Bond. But James Bond is a straight man. Separate the character from the actor. Let the gay actor act like a straight man. Since when did acting become not about acting? Now trans people have to act as trans people, gay people have to act as gay people, etc

I mean, the actor can be gay. But bond isn’t gay.

I suppose Whishaw only has good things to say about Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's then:

Now we are moving towards a world where your gender, race, and culture has to match the character you are voicing in animated shows.

Well, *ahem*, only in certain scenarios.

Obviously the best voice actor would voice Superman, Batman, Aquaman, etc., and it would not (and, for the record, I do not think it should) matter what the voice actor's background is.

Black Panther? A female/gay/trans/non-European character? You bet your arse you better line up PERFECTLY from an identity standpoint or prepare thy anus. No middle "merit based" option there.

Ah yes, zero box office receipts from China. Nice play for an industry that has bent over backwards to please the CCP for 15 years now.

Guess this dumbass didn't know that China don't play the woke games in films anymore.

This is the crux of the matter, isn’t it?

How about we let the best actor for the role play the role and end it at that?

As for who he would pick to take on the role next, Whishaw replied, "There aren't many out gay British actors. It's quite hard to say, isn't it?"

I thought they all were?

To call this stuff a slippery slope at this point would be an insult to slippery slopes.

Are you under the impression that this actor, 7th on the cast list, is making the casting decisions for the next Bond film?

And you linked to a comment I made that has so far been correct, unless you just believe that "SJW" stuff is why some critics have liked No Time to Die even though they're isn't evidence of it in the actual reviews of those critics. Not to mention the praise for this film is far from universal.

100% this.

And while we're at it, everybody should stop bitching about Gal Gadot as Cleopatra, Hank Azaria as Apu, and Al Jolson in blackface. Deal?

says the guy who has the acting range of "nerdy effeminate guy in the background" to voicing a talking bear.

Don't get me wrong. Paddington is great.

They need to bring back the fat old aristocrat bond like the Roger Moore version. The black belt in karate that can’t lift his leg up more than a foot off the ground but will still whip your arse. I miss the good old days.

No. I'm under the impression that these kinds of statements are trial balloons that have, most recently, ultimately come to pass as studios have universally attempted to go further and further into social justice and "equity and diversity" moves. Most studios have actually released their mission statements on this very issue which have been linked here, so I'm not sure why this is even a debate.

They are 100% more interested at this point (now and moving forward) with checking what they see as "diversity" boxes than they are with entertaining. As such, the fact that an actor in this series in speculating for his desire to see a gay Bond is entirely plausible given the trajectory of the industry.
