They are very flawed films for sure, but the world building is phenomenal. Especially when compared to the sequels, which had almost none.

I was a kid when the prequels came out so of course I loved them.
Then as I got older, I was on the they really sucked train but 3 was ok.
As I aged more and the sequel trilogy came out, I rewatched all of them.
3 is a borderline great movie, very flawed but it’s a fun as heck movie. As others said, you just embrace the flaws and roll with it.
1&2 are bad but they have some great moments here and there and I can still sit down and enjoy them for what they are.
I can’t do that for 8&9.

I've always enjoyed them. For some reason, I've always been able to recognize their issues and still enjoy them. Incredibly rewatchable for me. Something I can't say about the Disney trilogy.

The one part that just makes me seethe with anger is the pod race announcers doing wacky sports guy voices

Jar Jar lost me completely. Really turned me off. No interest at all.

First of all, the first movie was, and is, Star Wars. Not A New Hope. Not Episode IV. Just Star Wars.
The sequels that came out were dreadfully boring. Went to them with my sons when they were young. Fell asleep during the first two and never went to the third. To this day I couldn't tell you a single plot point of either sequel. Just a tedious slog.

Anakin and Obi Wan should have been the two Jedi in Episode 1, and and we should have been seeing signs of Anakin's turn there.
It is much too rushed in Episode 3, even if you take the clone wars suff into account.

All 3 are better than 8 and 9... i do think 7 is probably better than atleast 2...
All 3 have horrible dialogue and require depend far too much on CGI, but the ideas of them aren't bad... just poor execution
2 is particularly egregious in terms of dialogue but again the skeleton is there for a good movie.

So I loved those true first 3
Star Wars should never have gone cutesy for the kids; the R2- C3PO humor is ok, that's actually Abbott and Costello stuff.
Regarding the prequel trilogy-
Ep I- delete most of the Jar Jar and Annie stuff, it's ok.
Ep II- do a better job with Anakin, dialogue. Get rid of anything Cutesy again, like the alien at the diner with the buttcrack showing.
Ep III- most is pretty good, I think Anakin's conversion to the Dark Side was way too compressed... that goes back to the failings from ep 2. It should have been underway by now.
I think, compared to the sequels by Disney:
The prequels have immense interest and rewatch value, just as a source of lore. The sequels have zero on that side, as I disliked the story from the beginning (ep 7) and have no interest in learning more.
The prequels fill in some things.
I didn't care for some of what they filled in, as I expected the Jedi to look different. I thought Kenobi's robe was the same as everyone else's on Tatooine, didn't expect that it was actually his uniform
I thought the droid army was shite. Roger-roger and all that crap. Battle droids were better, but the damage was done already.
Oh, and 1 quibble about the OT- ESB, actually.
Han and Chewy going outside on the asteroid, wearing just a facemask. That took me out of the moment. The asteroid is just a big rock without an atmosphere. Should be vacuum. There were so many cool suits in Star Wars already (stormtroopers, Boba Fett's, even Vader's), and you can't give us something more than a respirator for that scene? Boo.

Nope. The first one was just too cartoonish, Lucas had too much control over the script. Some decent action scenes but it just plain didn't do it.
Second one, very poorly written. Christopher Lee as the villain the problem was the villain didn't show up till the last 15-20 minutes and we spent the first 2/3 of the damn movie on this stupid clone shite.
Revenge of the sith was probably the best one of the three, but it also was a case of missed opportunities. Opportunities. The script could have been so much better. Let's face it. His acting style is wooden. He's not a good actor. I mean he just doesn't care. Pull it off becoming Darth Vader as other actors could have.
The real problem was Lucas ran off. Gary Kurtz, who had a major hand in the storytelling in the middle three movies

Im a firm believer in the Jar Jar sith theory so 1 is very good in that light

Same feelings here. Phantom Menace came out when I was 15 and I loved Star Wars. I think I wasn’t old enough to really be bothered by the silliness in the prequels, and I just ignored Jar Jar.
I appreciated them a lot more after watching The Clone Wars, many years later, which helps you understand Anakin’s turn so much better, so viewing the movies as an extension of that animated series makes me enjoy them a lot more. It always seemed too easy of a “im a Jedi to I’m going to kill kids” of a turn until I saw the animated series.
The pod racing scene is awesome and one of the best scenes in all of movies to test out your surround sound at home.
Darth Maul was awesome.
I enjoyed General Grievous.
I thought it was fun learning about how the storm troopers were “made” even though it was a bit boring story telling in the movie.
And Revenge of the Sith fighting is great.

To sum up the theory is that per Lucas the prequels are supposed to mimic the OT but balance the other way and that jar jar was supposed to be a Sith Lord feigning ignorance to hide his power à la yoda.
Episode II was going to be the big reveal but there was such a massive negative reaction to the character Lucas chickened out and that’s why you have what feels to be a rushed shoehorned in count duku.
There are fairly long and extensive YouTube videos outlining the theory that are pretty convincing that the amount of “luck” and random other athletic abilities that he shows are stuff that is only seen in force users in that universe. Additionally quotes from Lucas have special emphasis on him as well.
