I've always said the "Louisiana" name should be a traveling trophy and the winner of the ULM/ULL football game gets to call themselves Louisiana for the next year.
ULM has all the Sun Belt school flags hanging in the arena on campus and the ULL one says "Louisiana".

As an LSU grad, I have no problem calling the place officially the University of Louisiana. It's not like it is going to hurt LSU. So far I haven't seen people in Ohio get their panties in a wD over there being an Ohio University.
However, Moscona sucks. He sucked as a DJ spinning records and he sucks as a sports radio host irrespective of his feelings about ULL.

It’s weird, because that’s who they are. They can call themselves whatever they want, but the rest of us know them as ULL. It differentiates them from ULM, the other major University of Louisiana school.

UC Berkeley known as Cal/California in athletics is not the flagship of the UC system.
nevada-reno is known as Nevada.
All this is small-minded all because University of Louisiana sounded better than Louisiana State and LSU and its lawyers which have a stranglehold on this state made sure there could be no other system with a flagship. UL Lafayette is the 2nd largest public university in this state and the only tier 1 research school in the UL system. If LSU did not involve themselves UL Lafayette would be the flagship without a doubt.
It all relates back to why progress is never made in this state and we rank last in almost every metric. It’s sad that LSU, it’s politicians and fans care so much about what another school trying to improve itself brands its name. Especially when the aforementioned school is deemed as no threat academically and athletically.
