ULM was the only thing holding them back from going full bore with it until Bruno gave up the fight in 2014/15(or sometime around then). I was on campus then a lot of people weren’t happy.

I think the 2000’s/early 2010’s admin definitely drove away a lot of the old alumni but I think Dr. Berry and the current admin team are doing their best to try and draw them back in. Whether it works or they’re too far gone who knows but they’re definitely trying.

As much as I liked competing in the sunbelt and running against the type of athletes we got to line up against I definitely think we would’ve been better served in the long run competing in the southland.

I was at NLU in the early 90's. Football was legit. We had some studs when I was there and were only like 3 years removed from winning the Div 1-AA NC. We left for Div 1 in 94. Complete disaster. We were no where ready for that meat grinder but we had to follow Tech. Lots of unhappy folks on campus but there was this arms race to keep up with what was going on in Ruston. Is it rocket science knowing you have no athletic budget and a decent roster for the Southland but not Div 1, but somehow expect to be competitive? That was a turning point. Then the school decides to switch names and mascots. I understand the Indian switch. I guess that had to be done and becoming ULM was somewhat easy to digest since ULL did it as well, but then letting them just take the name UL was the nail in the coffin for most alumni from my era. They lost me and it is sad. That school has (or had)so much potential. It sits on a beautiful campus. It is kinda removed from that shitehole called the rest of Monroe and honestly from looks alone, runs circles around Tech. However the past leadership has done an outstanding job of stepping on their dicks starting with the President that replaced Vines. Is Berry the answer? I don't know.

He should be calling out Matt for having Bud Light as a sponsor, not for calling ULL like the name actually is.

I remember La Tech fans making fun of our athletic performance center "looking like a prison" only to see that theirs is like half the size of ours.

Let’s be honest here. NLU and USL looked and sounded way cooler than what we have today. ULM went back to the colors and redesigned their logo as an homage to NLU.

Such a shame because even if you want to drop down if the directionality. Keep it as NLU and USL. University of South or Southern Louisiana / University of North Louisiana. Makes too much sense. That’s why it never stuck. But man look at some of this old gear. So clean.

You would have never ran into an identity issue like we have today. Craziest thing is that it’s very hard to find old NLU and USL gear. Hats decals signage clothing etc. it’s like they got rid of all of it when they rebranded.
