but in the modern world of multiple jumbotrons and smartphones, it's unrealistic to expect even the most keyed-in baseball junkie to keep an eye on every pitch for 9 innings.

People also seem to underestimate the reaction time needed to get out of the way. You can also lose track of the ball even if you're paying close attention.

Only stupid fricking idiots could possibly be against it.

My issue with the netting extending down the foul poles is where does it logically end?

I get the slippery slope argument, but the number of fatalities in 150 years of MLB is microscopic.

That doesn't mean precautions like extra netting shouldn't be made, but it also doesn't mean it's going to mushroom to all sections of parks imminently.

I turned away from the action to make one comment to the poster Bustedsack at a White Sox game this year, and within 2 seconds, he told me "heads up".

The ball landed a section away, but that thing was there in no time. It's asinine to expect fans to pick up every foul ball.

that's exactly what's going on in the span of a year or so if the trend continues

Based on what? It's not like MLB is mandating it. The Sox are expanding netting on their own. If other clubs are doing it, I haven't heard yet.

I bet you're also one of the dipshits who craps on adults who bring a glove to the game.

Take it easy. Diehard Louisiana Cubs fans are still getting used to stadium lights and electronic scoreboards.

The Nats have done it...but I have not been to a game yet to see how it looks.

Thanks, didn't realize that. I just don't see the downside to it. Some of the most expensive seats at every ballpark have always been behind netting anyway.

Because then they have no reason to bring their glove to the game

Nationals are also putting up netting to the foul pole next year.

Maybe they should pay attention to the ballgame.

You know you can be paying attention to the game and not be watching the batter, right?

The same people that don't want nets are the same people who bitch about people bringing gloves to games.

It's really odd.
