Because they support natural consequences With the lack of attention there’s come an increase of these issues. Plus the style of hitting has led to these issues

Like pay fricking attention to the game instead of using it as social hour to play on your phone.

Oh sure, that's gonna happen in that gay club at 1060 W Addison.

Yes you can, dumbass

While i have no issue with them extending the net, coming in here and saying you don't even notice a difference is a fricking lie. You can see the net, it doesn't bother me, but you can see it, it doesn't magically disappear, moron.

Netting done right isn’t even noticeable. It’s common sense with so many people staring at their phones these days.

Goes to baseball game, stares into phone the entire time

Gets hit with ball

The ball landed a section away, but that thing was there in no time. It's asinine to expect fans to pick up every foul ball.

Because the odds of me getting hit by a ball and suing drop exponentially with more netting.

Yeah, I'm the same way.

My non-WS tickets have all been close to the field beyond the netting as close to the dugout as I could get.

I enjoy watching the players interact with the fans, kids, and the possibility of getting a foul ball.

I usually get as close to the field as I can, where the net will definitely be an eye-sore. When paying a couple thousand for 2 games in a wknd series for game tickets, hotel, and refreshments for the family and/or friends, it is a requirement for me, or I will just stay home.

Kids that are sitting in prime areas for bodily harm and get injured should result in criminal charges for the parent. An adult should be well aware of any risk they are taking, which is beyond miniscule.

I mean if you go to the beach with your kids, you are more likely to have one drown or attacked by a shark. And if you're boating, you wouldn't allow your child in the boat without a life-vest, would you?

People probably thought the same thing when the NHL first put up all the extra netting behind the goals. Now you never hear anything about it.

My guess would be maybe it’s easier to fixate the netting if attached to the foul pole. I know at the minor league games I go to there is a giant light structure close to the foul pole that suspends the netting. But in MLB this would be harder since there are a lot of seats in that same spot.

It has to be done. Bigger, stronger, faster players doesn’t mix well with fatter, dumber, slower, drunker, unathletic fans looking to sue MLB.

How fast did the NHL act when that girl got killed by a puck?

MLB needs to get over it's tradition and get with it.

MLB already has a declining attendance issue. alienate the diehard traditionalist and those numbers will fall even more.

I go to the ballpark to feel as part of the game. To see the stadium and the city. The only screen I want in front of me is a TV screen for away games.

NHL put in the extra netting behind the goals the following season after a young girl died from being hit with a puck.

Bingo. The in-person experience is getting worse and worse. Attendance at live sporting events is going way down across almost all sports in every part of the country.

You're going to take some of the most expensive, up close seats and put a big tacky net up? It's ridiculous.

The pussification of this country and the obsession with making sure everything is 'safe' is fricking ruining things.

People getting hit with baseballs is not a problem and does not need a 'solution'
