Yes agreed but a 100+ mph screamer down the lines is a weapon not a game. Major leaguers at times just knock them down much less a kid or 50 year old holding a dog and a beer. You can say it’s dumb people on their phones but all it takes is looking at the stats on the scoreboard or checking out the mph on the gun

Netting should be extended down the lines. When you sit behind it you really don’t notice it. It doesn’t have to be the tall netting like behind the backstop but the Lowe level to protect against line drives

I avoided sitting behind home in the past because of this delusion but you really can’t see it. People who act like you can just make that excuse because they want a cooler reason to not drop the bucks on those seats

I bring my glove to the game like a real man. Protect myself and everyone around me. Also may get a souvenir

Have you ever read the back of a baseball ticket?

The White Sox already announced they're installing netting down to the foul poles. It might even happen before the end of this season.

The players seem to be for it. Japan has had it for years. Fans will get over it quickly, just like when the nets were extended to the end of the dugouts.

I mean that picture is pretty badass but the point is there are more foul balls than ever. That’s a statistical fact. We have extremely strong near invisible to the fan netting. Mlb is trying to build a love for the game in the younger generation so there is a wealth of distractions put in BY THE teams to entertain fans (videos mascots etc) IMO the experience is different and we have the ability to change it where it isn’t detracting to the fan experience

Exactly. The lazy argument against more netting is to "pay attention to the game".

I somewhat empathize with that mindset, but in the modern world of multiple jumbotrons and smartphones, it's unrealistic to expect even the most keyed-in baseball junkie to keep an eye on every pitch for 9 innings.

My issue with the netting extending down the foul poles is where does it logically end?
You're telling me the person immediately to the outside of the foul pole is in more danger than the person behind the wall catching a homerun?

It just feels like we will put up 10 ft nets all the way to the foul poles and then years later complain that they arent safe enough because they dont protect from the hard hit balls that go over the nets along the foul line.

At some point this is all just palpable levels of risk, the likes of which we accept daily.

Imagine not looking away when a ball is pitched, knowing that the ball could come at you that fast
