I’m not seeing McVay get enough shite for this. Childish, detrimental lack of leadership and poise.

You don’t like the pick? Do that behind closed doors.

I mean they drafted Terrance Ferguson in the second round last year and he started ahead of Sadiq at Oregon.

I mean it's a little more than "I'm mad they didn't pick a guy who can contribute now." Right? It's more like, "you didn't get a guy who can contribute now AND you drafted frickING Ty Simpson."

Ty Simpson might not even be on the team in three-four years when Stafford is done.

There was only one QB in this draft worthy of a move like that and it was Mendoza.

Or at all?

Death. Taxes. And 5’8” energy from Sean McVay.

McVay conveniently forgets that he was born on 3rd Base (while thinking he hit a triple) with getting his start as a Coach in the league thanks to his Grandfather, John McVay, who was GM/President of the 49ers.

Loane is a big, physical guard. They fit into whatever system you put them in, though he's more pass than run, which is what the NFL wants more of. And he was the top rated guard.

Goal of the organization is not necessarily the goal of the HC. The goal of the HC is to win the Super Bowl this year. The goal of the organization could be that, or it could be to become competitive or remain competitive for a long period of time and continually field a winning team that brings in revenue. Simpson is a potential pick for continuity. McVay doesn’t care though - if he loses Stafford to injury this year, he knows they’re toast

So, was McVay putting on an act draft night?

Simpson said he met with McVay at team facilities and “talked for hours” about football. He said he was told not to say anything about that meeting so other teams would remain in the dark about the Rams’ plans.

I understand the smoke screen ahead of the draft, but why keep it up in the PC and other interviews?

No he’s stating the exact opposite. He’s saying Ty most definitely isn’t the guy to push them past the wall and McVay wanted someone else at a position of need that could get them over the hump.

However, on The Pat McAfee Show, Rams general manager Les Snead revealed why Simpson said he didn't meet with McVay and the Rams: he was told to keep their pre-draft meeting a secret, and held to the script all the way through the post-draft process.

Occam’s razor to me is Simpson / Snead are full of shite

McVay still “following a script” after the selection is laughable. To be that cold on the congratulatory call makes no sense if that’s a guy you were high on and took extreme measures to be quiet about

He retires with Stafford, book it

Head Coaches get overruled in free agency, but I've rarely heard of one getting told what to do with the draft. Usually they are the ones calling the shots in the draft as to whom to select ultimately.

But the Rams drafting a QB makes sense, Stafford is coming to the end of his shelf life after 17 years. The question is, would Simpson be the right guy to back up or even to replace Stafford.

He probably is not. Probably should have stayed at Alabama another year.

Nope. Incredibly slim chance Ty would approach the same spot next year given that class. No way he’s the second qb off the board in 2027. He absolutely made the right choice.

I think we are, we won't be picking this high next year. So let's use this as an opportunity to secure our future (somewhat similar to what Green Bay has done)"

It's a reasonable thought...if you think Simpson is a good QB. That's the issue. Rodgers was a good QB at Cal. Love at least had the physical traits of a NFL QB. Simpson was OK with some good moments at Alabama, but not consistently great. He's also doesn't have the remarkable physical traits evaluators look for.

or wait until next year when better QBs will be available at that spot or lower

You think he would have been drafted higher next year?

This was a weak QB draft. Next year will be stronger.

Back up your theory and list next year's QBs likely to be drafted in the 1st round and include Simpson.

But I do agree the Rams had to draft a QB. Old man Stafford could get hurt this year. Might need someone to compete against Stetson Bennett. AND they need competition for next year's starter to begin this season. The last thing they would want is to have to hand the reigns to Bennett next season under the conditions that the Cleveland Browns faced last season.

Shouldn’t let Steve Kerr make the pick. Not his lane.
